Grizzlies Ousted by Balzers, 5-0

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Kicking off homecoming weekend, the Adams State Women's soccer team met Dixie State in a Friday afternoon matchup that would result in a shut-out loss. The Grizzlies will fight to split the weekend as they face Westminster College in a Sunday morning matchup.

The Trailblazers opened the scoring early in the game with a dominant offensive effort. In just the first 5 minutes, Dixie State drew a corner kick that would result in a goal. In an effort to bounce back, Maya Mau fired a shot at the goal that was just wide of the net. Quickly after, Dixie State shot and netted their second goal in the 12th minute of the game. With a dominating performance and keeping the ball in their possession, the Trailblazers were able to add another goal to the score in only the first half to put them ahead 3-0.

Dixie State came out firing the second half, scoring a goal in the first ten minutes off another corner kick assist. Carena Harrison of the Grizzlies tried to retaliate, firing a shot from far out, but was denied by Dixie's Adelle Brown. The Grizzlies combined for 3 shots on goal but were unable to get one in the back of the net. In the 66th minute, Dixie scored their fifth and final goal of the game. The Grizzlies were able to hold them off for the remainder of the game, fighting for more possession of the ball than they were able to achieve in the first half.

Blocking shots, the Grizzlies defense fought off the Trailblazers offense to the best of their ability. Corri Zaiger added two saves to her career and stood strong behind her defense. The Trailblazers were able to get 10 corner kicks in the game, at least two of them leading to goals. Firing 13 shots with 7 of them being on goal, Dixie effectively doubled the Grizzlies numbers.

Adams State Women's soccer team goes into the weekend standing at 3-8 overall, with a 1-7 conference record after today's conference game loss. The Grizzlies will defend their turf this Sunday against the Griffins in hopes to come out with a win on homecoming weekend.
