ALAMOSA, Colo – The Adams State Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are all set to begin their postseason as they prepare to race at the RMAC Championships in Grand Junction Colorado. For the Grizzlies who have cruised through their regular season schedule, they enter the meet with the Womens squad ranked as the number one team in the nation, with the men coming in as the number two-ranked team in all of NCAA Division II.
The Adams State Women, led by senior
Eilish Flanagan, are hoping to peak at just the right time to compete for a national title. Their first step on the climb to glory will take place this weekend at the conference meet in Grand Junction. They should be fresh and well-rested, as the last time that the top runners ran was three weeks ago at the Paul Short Run. Expect them to come out and put on a strong showing this weekend, but not yet hit their peak. The formula for success the last few years has been a gradual stride into the postseason meets, building up each one and saving their best for the National Championships. The Grizzlies will receive a test from conference rival Colorado Mines, who enter Saturday as the No.3 in Division II.
The Men, led by
Dane Blomquist and
Kale Adams have a chip on their shoulder headed into Saturday. They are ranked second in the nation, but are behind a solid Colorado Mines squad who is the top ranked team in Division II this year. If there was ever something to prove, the Grizzly men will try and prove it the next few weeks, as they look to contend for another National Title. Similar to the women, the RMAC Championships will be the first step in a three meet climb to the National Championships, and while it will be a good test, the Grizzlies hope to hit their stride in the next couple weeks.
Last season, both the Men and the Women came through to take home the RMAC titles in Arvada, Colo. While conference titles are nice, both teams have a greater goal in mind. Led by Head Coach
Damon Martin, the Grizzlies have a loaded squad and hope to reach the highest of heights when the 2019 season is all said and done. The RMAC Championships hosted by Colorado Mesa University is set to begin with the Women's race at 10:50 followed by the Men's race at 11:45 at the Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction, Colo.
