Grizzlies Set for Conference Foes of Utah

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team extends their homestand to take on two teams from Utah. The Grizzlies are set to take on Dixie State Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Westminster College on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 5:00 p.m.

Keeping up with the Grizzlies:
The Grizzlies (3-10, 0-4 RMAC) are coming out of a tough weekend of games against UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado Mines. The Grizzlies look for redemption as they rely on their strong defensive front with Mackenzie Swanson leading the team with 136 digs, and Shannon Mulkey leading with 37 blocks.  Hannah Goddard is a big part of both sides of the net, with 117 digs and 102 kills. Bailey Schlosser is also a big part of setting up the Adams attack, with 245 assists.

Tracking the Trailblazers:
Dixie State (8-4, 3-1 RMAC) is coming to Alamosa fresh off a weekend on the road, taking on Western Colorado and Colorado Mesa. The Trailblazers beat the Mountaineers of Western Colorado 3-2 in five very close sets. Colorado Mesa put a stop to Dixie State's seven game win streak. Ones to watch on the Trailblazer attack are Lauren Gammell and Sydney Johnson, both leading Dixie State with 85 and 75 kills. Setting up those attacks is Jordyn Nelson with 262 assists. Holding the defense together are Gammell and Lizzy Clark with 49 and 39 blocks, along with Mykenna Nelson with 204 digs.

Last year was the first time Adams State had ever matched up against the Trailblazers. Dixie State defended their home court with a 3-0 sweep. The Grizzlies look to take advantage of their home court this Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Watching Westminster:
Westminster College (3-9, 0-4 RMAC) is coming off a big nonconference win against Montana Western. The Griffins defeated the Bulldogs in three quick sets. In conference play, Westminster also took on Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado. Against Colorado Mesa, the Griffins took a huge win in the first set, but the Mavericks came back in the following three. They also had a good match up against Western Colorado with another very close first set. Leading the Griffins defensively are Sydnee Simmons and Maggie Sala with 20 and 18 blocks, and Hannah Stearman with 192 digs. Audrey Green is a big player for the Griffins to watch out for with 140 kills and 105 digs.

Adams State and Westminster College have squared up the last four years, with Adams State holding the record, 4-0. Last year, the Griffins and Grizzlies played four close sets, two of which finished at 26. Adams State walked away with the 3-1 victory. The Grizzlies will defend their court on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Upcoming:
After back-to-back weekends at home, the Grizzlies head back out on the road to take on New Mexico Highlands Oct. 11 and CSU-Pueblo Oct. 12.
