Grizzlies Final Weekend on the Road

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team hits the road for their final two road games of the season. The Grizzlies will first head to Gunnison, Colo. to take on the Mountaineers Friday, Nov. 1. Adams State will then travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to challenge Colorado Mesa.
 
The Grizzlies (7-15, 4-9 RMAC) are moving in to their final road games from a couple of challenging games. Adams State just came home from a couple of tough losses in South Dakota, where Adams State played in a couple really tight matches.
 
The top Grizzly leader moving in to the weekend is Hannah Goddard, leading the team with 193 kills, 215 digs, 20 blocks, and 17 service aces. Other leaders on the attack are Shannon Mulkey and Riley Oglevie with 157 and 147 kills. Mulkey is also leading the Grizzlies with 73 blocks on the season. Mackenzie Swanson is also another big leader for Adams State with 272 digs and 30 service aces, ranking fourth among RMAC competitors.
 
Watching Western
The Mountaineers (8-13, 4-9 RMAC) have had a very similar season to the Grizzlies. Western Colorado is coming out of a tough couple of weekends in Utah and against the pair of South Dakota teams. The Mountaineers are 1-4 at home this year. Some leaders for Western Colorado are Jordyn Todd on the attack with 213 kills and 230 digs defensively. Myles Hilbert and Briana Hardy are the top defenders for Western Colorado, Myles with 289 digs and Hardy with 46 blocks. Hanna Hendrickson is not only leading the Mountaineers; she is ranked 6 in RMAC with her 622 assists.
 
The last match up for the Grizzlies and Mountaineers was October of last season, where the Grizzlies took it in three. Historically, Adams State is 20-7 against Western Colorado. The Grizzlies have won the past six matches these two teams have faced up in. Adams State will be in Gunnison to challenge Western Colorado at 7 p.m.
 
Scouting Colorado Mesa
Colorado Mesa (13-8, 9-4 RMAC) is currently ranked fourth within the RMAC standings, and has had a fairly good season thus far. The Mavericks are coming out of a weekend in Utah, defeating Westminster College, and falling to Dixie State. Leading not only the Mavericks, but in the RMAC at Kasie Gilfert, ranked third with 299 kills and a .381 hitting percentage, and Camile Smith in fourth with 206 kills and a .375 percentage. Defensivly Gifert is leading Colorado Mesa with 66 blocks, and Kerstin Layman with 342 digs.
 
In the last match up between Adams State and Colorado Mesa, the Mavericks took home with 3-1 win. Historically, the Grizzlies are 4-8 against Colorado Mesa, and have fallen in the last three games against the Mavericks. Adams State will be in Grand Junction Saturday, Nov. 2 to take on the Mavericks at 4 p.m.
 
Coming Up Next
The Grizzlies will conclude the 2019 season with three games at home. Adams State will take on CSU-Pueblo Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and New Mexico Highlands Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The Grizzlies will then host their final regular season game Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. to take on Fort Lewis College.
