Adams State Travels to Take on Non-Conference Competition in Kansas

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Basketball team is set to travel to Hays, Kansas to take on two nonconference competition. The Grizzlies will take on Fort Hays State University Friday, Nov. 15 and University of Nebraska at Kearney Saturday, Nov. 16.
 
The Grizzlies are moving in to the weekend off a tough tournament in Texas, falling to both Tarleton State and Cameron University. The Grizzlies are coming in to their early season 0-2.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Fort Hays State is opening their early season with two road wins against Minnesota Duluth and Concordia-St. Paul. The Tigers finished 32-2 overall and 18-1 in the MIAA Conference. This will be the Tigers home opener of the 2019-2020 season. Leading Fort Hays is senior, Belle Barbieri who averaged a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds a game. Lanie Page was the Tiger's leading scorer for both games with 27 points on the weekend. This will be the first time Adams State and Fort Hays have seen each other since 2006. Tip off is set to
 
Scouting the Lopers
The University of Nebraska at Kearney is also coming in to the weekend 2-0. The Lopers defeated Minnesota-Crookston and Wayne State in Kearney, Neb. Last year the Lopers finished 15-14 overall and 8-11 in the MIAA Conference. Leading the Lopers early season thus far is Brooke Carlson, who has averaged 21 point per game and 9 rebounds per game. Following Carlson is Haley Simental, who has totaled 33 points in two games. Adams State last saw the Lopers in 2011, where the Grizzlies came out victorious 68-58 in Alamosa.
 
As the Grizzlies head in to another weekend on the road, Zakiya Beckles and Ally McKenzie lead the Grizzlies with 19 points. Following two are Paiton Demps and Donwanae Anthony each as an influential part of the Grizzlies offense and defense.
 
Coming Up Next
The Grizzlies will continue to battle on the road, traveling to Canyon, Texas for the West Texas Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 29 and 30 to challenge West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.
