ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team closes their season with a big win against conference foes, Fort Lewis. The Grizzlies defeated the Skyhawks in four sets winning: 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 25-17. Adams State finishes their season 9-18 overall and 6-12 in RMAC.
The first set opened with close scores, and solid rallies between the two teams. With the score tied at four, Adams State pulled away going on a 9-0 run with
Bailey Schlosser in to serve. The Grizzlies maintained their lead and finished the set 25-14.
The Grizzlies came out and dominated the second set, going on an early 5-2 lead. Adams State held the lead for the entire set, holding their largest lead of 8. Adams State had a few solid kills from
Riley Oglevie and
Chasey Blach to give the Grizzlies their 25-19 win in the second set.
Fort Lewis came out for the third set with revenge in sight. The Skyhawks quickly rained an early 5-2 lead, which held for the remainder of the set. Fort Lewis held their largest lead of eight early on in the set, but the Grizzlies battled back, getting the score within two points, 16-14. The Skyhawks pulled back away and completed the set 25-20 over the Grizzlies.
Looking to bounce back, Adams State came out hungry in the fourth and final set. The Grizzlies and Skyhawks battled back and forth in the early stages of the set, with the Skyhawks keeping a close two to three point deficit. Adams State remained the leader throughout the entire set, extending their largest lead to 8 points.
Leading the Grizzlies in their final regular season match up were Oglevie with 15 kills, and
Shannon Mulkey and
Alexandra MacAskill each racking up 12 kills.
Bailey Schlosser and
Maya Waddington assisted most of the attack, with Schlosser tallying 25 assists and Waddington with 13. On the defensive end,
Mackenzie Swanson and Schlosser each tallied 13 digs, with Blach tallying 5 blocks.
Adams State finished their 2019 season in 14th among RMAC competitors, above Westminster College and New Mexico Highlands. The Grizzlies finished their season on a two game win streak, and will look to continue the positive momentum throughout the off season and in to next fall.
