Box Score HAYS, Kan. – The Adams State Women's Basketball team falls to the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Grizzlies move to 0-4 overall, with all four games on the road.
The game opened up with the Lopers taking a quick 4-0 lead. The Grizzlies found
Maddie Dorris in the lane to give Adams State their first two points. Adams State added on to their score with a three from
Zakiya Beckles.
Laura Gutierrez hit a jumper, adding to the Grizzlies' final points of the quarter. Adams State trailed Nebraska-Kearney 16-7.
The Grizzlies continued to battle in the second quarter, adding 10 more points to their first half total.
Marshell Hollins led the Grizzlies in the second quarter scoring 8 of their 10 points. The Lopers led 40-17 to conclude the first half.
Moving in to the second half of action, the Grizzlies continued the fight, scoring 15 more points in the third quarter. Gutierrez led the Grizzlies in the third, adding five points. Dorris and
Danielle Jimenez each added a bucket to the Adams State total as well. The Grizzlies ended the third quarter trailing by 23, 55-32.
The Lopers played some shut down defense against the Grizzlies, assisting in their lead. The game wrapped up with Beckles grabbing a steal and making a fast break jumper with one second left on the clock. Adams State fell 70-41 against the Lopers.
Beckles led the Grizzlies with 11 points on the day with 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Next on the leaders chart are Gutierrez and Hollins each racking up 9 points. Hollins also led the Grizzlies with
Paiton Demps, both grabbing 8 rebounds apiece.
The Grizzlies will continue their season on the road in Canyon, Texas for the West Texas Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 29 and 30. The Grizzlies will face West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico in the Thanksgiving Classic.
