GRAND JUNICTION, Colo. – Adams State Women's Volleyball falls to Colorado Mesa in three sets this afternoon. The Grizzlies move to 7-17 overall and 4-11 in RMAC. The Mavericks took down the Grizzlies 25-18, 25-21, and 25-18.
Adams State came out strong in the first set, gaining an early 5-2 lead. The Mavericks worked their way back to tie the score at six. The two teams rallied back and forth, tying the scores at 7 and 8. Colorado Mesa then took control going on a 6-1 run gaining the lead. Adams State battled back, but never tied it back up. Colorado Mesa finished the first set 25-18.
The Grizzlies came back out and played another tight set at the opening of set two. With the score tied at 8, Colorado Mesa pulled away with a 9-2 run. Adams State made a comeback, cutting the Maverick lead to two. Colorado Mesa closed the second set 25-21.
Colorado Mesa came out strong in the third set, starting with a quick 12-4 lead. The Grizzlies battled back, cutting the Maverick lead to five, 10-15. Colorado Mesa maintained their lead through remainder of the set, finishing 25-18.
Leader on the Grizzly attack were
Hannah Goddard and
Riley Oglevie, with 8 and 6 kills. Assisting the attack was
Maya Waddington, with 13 assists. Defensively,
Mackenzie Swanson had 8 digs followed by Goddard with 6.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next week at home to take on CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands. Next week the Grizzlies will also be hosting a benefit dinner for the family of Dave and Kim Martinez on Nov. 8th and 9th. The benefit dinner will be from 5-7:30 p.m. in Plachy Hall.
