Grizzlies Ready for Home Opener Against Northern New Mexico Saturday

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team prepares for their fifth contest of the season, as they welcome Northern New Mexico College for what is their 2019-2020 home opener. The teams met less than a week ago in Durango, a contest that the Grizzlies won in a tight one, 74-71. The Grizzlies now sit at 2-2 headed into their second consecutive Matchup with the visiting Eagles.

The Grizzlies had a successful weekend in Durango last weekend, thanks to a plethora of notable performances, mostly from their 2019 newcomers. Against Embry-Riddle on Friday, the Grizzlies were able to get 32 points out of junior transfer Kaelin Crane in 29 minutes. Crane now leads the Grizzlies in scoring through four games, averaging 15.5 points per game through that span. Freshman Rylan O'brien is second on the team in points per game average with 14.5, as he contributed 13 points in the starting lineup last Saturday in the victory against the Eagles. The duo has been a tremendous offensive sparkplug for the Grizzlies, and it hopes to continue moving forward.

Senior Rickey Norris picked up right where he left off in the rebounding category from a year ago, as he comes into Saturday's matchup averaging nine rebounds per game through four contests. On the offensive end, Norris has been both in the starting lineup and has come off the bench, and has been a key senior contributor on both ends of the floor. For a team that lacks size thus far, Norris has been a very valuable piece in their recent success, often playing bigger than his six foot four frame suggests.

The Eagles were edged out by the Grizzlies, and will attempt to not make it two straight losses against their out of state opponent. They are a deep team, and were led last game by number 5 Alexander O'guinn who led all scorers with 19 points, also snatching nine rebounds. The Grizzlies who played the Eagles just six days ago will have O'guinn down as a marked man in efforts to try and stop him from having a second straight dominant performance against them.

The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team is set for their 2019-2020 home opener Saturday, November 23rd at 7:30 PM from Plachy Hall Gymnasium. Live stream and live stats for the game will be provided by the athletics website at asugrizzlies.com.
