Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Adams State Women's Basketball team battles it out with Eastern New Mexico to conclude the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic. Falling on Friday to West Texas A&M, the Grizzlies challenged the Greyhounds to a good game, with Eastern New Mexico coming out on top 64-41.
 
Adams State came out strong in the first quarter getting up in the first two minutes from a three by 
Laura Gutierrez. Both 
Kassie Schell and 
Zakiya Beckles contributed to the Grizzlies lead. Schell went 2-2 from the line and added a jumper to the Grizzlies total, while Beckles made a layup in the paint to put an extra couple of tallies on the board. Adams State led for the majority of the first quarter, extending their lead to five, twice. The Greyhounds answered quickly to tie the game up at 11 with 21 seconds left on the clock. Making the and-one, the Greyhounds finished the first quarter leading the Grizzlies by one.  
 
Makaela Ewing led the Grizzlies into the second quarter. The Greyhounds came out with a quick four points to start the quarter. Grizzlies, Ewing and Schell each made a jumper to answer Eastern New Mexico. The Grizzlies battled back and forth with the Greyhounds as they slowly extended their lead. The Grizzlies finished the second quarter trailing 23-36.
 
The Greyhounds came out playing tough defensive in the third quarter. Eastern New Mexico only allowed the Grizzlies five points in the quarter. 
Danielle Jimenez hit a big three for Adams State, and 
Paiton Demps put up a jumper under the basket from a Greyhound turnover. Eastern New Mexico closed the third leading 51-28.
 
The Grizzlies turned it back on in the fourth, beginning with Gutierrez draining two more three's in the quarter. Demps tacked on four more points from a layup in the paint and two good free throws. Adams State finished the game falling 64-41 to the Greyhounds.
 
Gutierrez lead the Grizzlies on the scoreboard, putting up 11 points. Schell followed, adding 8 points and coming down with 5 defensive rebounds. Demps and Beckles led Adams State crashing the boards. Demps finished the day with 6 defensive rebounds and put up 6 points. Beckles also came down with 6 boards, 2 offensive and 4 defensive, and also led the Grizzlies with 7 assists.
 
Injury Update:
The Grizzlies are suffering through the early season with many injuries throughout the team. Starting point guard 
Kaela McClure, starting guard 
Stephanie Ruiz, and transfer forward 
Taylor Thompson are all out with season endind injuries. Posts, 
Maddie Dorris and 
Ally McKenzie are also out with temporary injuries for the time being. We wish the Grizzlies a speedy recovery.
