Grizzlies Celebrate Senior Weekend

ALAMOSA. Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball hosts CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands to start their final homestand of the season. Adams State is looking to bounce back from a rocky couple of weekends on the road. The Grizzlies move in to the weekend 7-17 overall and 4-11 in RMAC.
 
Leading the Grizzlies in to the weekend is senior Hannah Goddard, who had collected 203 kills, 17 service aces, 222 digs, and 20 blocks on the season. Following Goddard on the attack are Shannon Mulkey and Riley Oglevie, tallying 164 and 151 kills. Mulkey is also leading the Grizzlies defense with 80 blocks. Mackenzie Swanson is also another influential member of the Grizzlies, leading the team with 288 digs and 30 aces.
 
Scouting the Thuderwolves
Adams State will first challenge the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves (11-13, 8-7 RMAC). The Grizzlies faced the Pack in Pueblo earlier this season, where Adams State came out with the 3-1 victory. Since then, the Thunderwolves went on to win four of their next seven games. Leading the Pack's attack is Brooke Schilling, tallying 266 kills on the season. She is also second in digs with 221, following Kyle Meltzer with 362. Meltzer is also leading the Pack in service aces, collecting 29. A key player in the Thunderwolves defense is Jazzy Espinoza, who leads CSU-Pueblo with 102 blocks.
 
Adams State has found success against the Thunderwolves in the last eight of their ten match ups. Most recently, the Grizzlies played the Thunderwolves in four close sets. CSU-Pueblo took the first 25-22, with Adams State taking the next three, 26-24, 25-21, and 25-21. The Grizzlies look to continue their success with Friday night at 7 p.m. in Plachy Hall.
 
Keeping an Eye on the Cowgirls
Adams State will take on New Mexico Highlands (1-22, 0-15 RMAC) on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Grizzlies challenged the Cowgirls in Las Vegas, N.M. earlier this season, with Adams State coming out with the 3-0 win. Since last facing the Grizzlies, New Mexico Highlands has had a tough season, playing right games against Chadron State and Westminster College. The Cowgirl's attack is lead by Tiffany MAtchett and Cynthia Norris, tallying 287 and 227 kills. Matchett also leads the team in service aces, 25, and digs with 357.
 
Adams State has also found success against the Cowgirls in the last eight of their ten match ups. The Grizzlies most recently took on New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowgirls played the Grizzlies in three close sets, with Adams State coming out on top: 25-18, 27-25, and 25-20.
 
Coming Up
The Grizzlies will celebrate Senior Day this Saturday, honoring their two seniors, Hannah Goddard and Grecia Diaz Martinez, before the match. Adams State will play their last game of the regular season next Friday, Nov. 15, where they will take on Fort Lewis.
 
Adams State Women's Volleyball and the Athletic Department are also hosting benefit dinners Nov. 8th and 9th from 5-7:30 p.m. in support of the Martinez Family. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
