Grizzlies Rocked by Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D -- Adams State Women's Basketball falls in Saturday's matchup against the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers. The Grizzlies now move to 1-3 in RMAC play. 

 

The game opened with a scoreless first two minutes. The Hardrockers got their first bucket with 7:31 remaining in the first quarter. Adams State quickly responded with a jumper from Marshell Hollin. South Dakota School of mines pushed on the gas and went on a 25-5 run to close the first quarter. 

 

With jumpers from Makaela Ewing and Zakiya Beckles, the Grizzlies made a dent in the Hardrockers lead. Adding jumpers from Maddie Dorris and Kassie Schell, the Grizzlies finished the first half trailing 25-46. 

 

Adams State continued to battle through the third quarter. Ally McKenzie and Hollins contributed to the Grizzlies second half score. South Dakota School of Mines maintained a strong lead throughout the third and fourth quarters, The Hardrockers extended their lead to 30 with just under 5 minutes remaining in the game. Adams State continued to battle closing down the game, 46-75. 

 

Adams State's leading scorers were Beckles with 17 points and Hollins with 16. Beckles finished the night with two blocks, one steal and three defensive rebounds. Hollins totaled four defensive rebounds, two assists and one steal. McKenzie led the Grizzlies with 5 rebounds, three offensive and two defensive. Laura Gutierrez led the team with three assists. 

 

The Grizzlies will be back out on the court next weekend, Saturday, Dec. 21 at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.
