Hays, KS – The Adams State University wrestling team hits the road for a third time in the early season, visiting the Great Plains once again to compete in the Bob Smith Open, hosted by No. 19 Fort Hays State University. Adams State comes in with a small group of six grapplers. The tournament kicks off at 9 AM and goes on all day Saturday.
Of the six grapplers heading into battle this weekend,
Nicolas Carrasco looks to make waves with the given opportunity. Carrasco, one of the top named wrestlers on the Adams State roster, last saw the mats in Nebraska where he would end the day going 2-2. Carrasco fell short on placing but saw two great victories against notable opponents.
Also looking for a bounce back from Nebraska is redshirt junior
William Gustavson. Going into the elite 184lb weight class, Gustavson's opening match would be against Central Missouri's Dominique Hampton. After taking a humbling 10-1 fall to Hampton, Gustavson would miss a bye round and head straight into his second match against Tj Shelton of Colo. School of Mines. The conference bout would end in a 9-1 fall for Gustavson who looks to bounce back this weekend.
Isaiah DeLaCerda,
Jonathan Andreatta,
Manuelito Casias, and Issac Lopez look to open their 2019-20 seasons this weekend in search of a strong base to build on for the upcoming season.
Your Grizzly Grapplers hit the mats bright and early Saturday morning at 9:00 AM (CST)/ 8:00 AM (MST).
