Grizzlies Fall to Dustdevils and Rambelles on Second Day in Texas

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Adams State Softball went 0-2 for the second day in a row at the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge. The Grizzlies fell yet again to Texas A&M International and host Angelo State.

The Grizzlies (0-7) produced four runs on the day, all of which that came in the first game. The Grizzlies are now 0-4 in the Angelo state Tournament and will look to bounce back on the final day.

Game one started with the Dustdevils (4-6) who secured a 12-4 win in five innings. They produced their 12 runs on 13 hits with one error, while holding the Grizzlies to four runs on seven hits and one error.

Texas A&M International jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Adams State managed to get three runner son base to start the game but all were left stranded. The Dustdevils scored three runs on three hits and with the help of a Grizzlies error.

The Grizzlies first run came in the third inning to cut the score to 3-1. Angel Micciulli led off with a single to center field. She crossed home plate four batters later after Rebecca Wood got one base from an error that allowed her to score the unearned run from third.

The Dustdevils responded in the bottom of the fourth scoring five runs on four hits to push their lead to 8-1. The Grizzlies managed to respond one last time in the game with three runs in the fifth.

Micciulli got on base to start the inning on a hit by pitch. Sarah Rocha followed her up with a single to left field. Following back-to-back outs Rebecca Wood stepped to the plate and delivered a three-run bomb to left field to bring the score to 8-4.

Texas A&M International answered in the bottom of the inning with four runs on three hits to go up eight-runs and end the game in five. The rally pushed the Dustdevils to a 2-0 record now against the Grizzlies in the tournament.

Micciulli led the way for Adams going a perfect 2-2 with two runs scored. Wood was 1-3 to finish game one and had four RBI with one run scored. Taylor Sandoval suffered the loss in the circle (0-1) after four innings of work.

Lindsey Smith and Brianna Arredondo both went 3-4 in the game and had a combined nine RBI on the day. Smith also had three runs scored to go along with her four RBI day. Morgan Chavarria and Melanie Gamboa each had two hits, Chavarria produced three runs and two RBI. Sara Caterson picked up the win in the circle to improve to 1-2. She pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run, unearned, and five hits.
 

Game two of the tournament was a tough one for the Grizzlies as the No. 6 Angelo State Rambelles (8-1) held them hitless en route to a 19-0 win in five innings.

The Belles produced seven runs in each of the first two innings to grab 14-0 lead. Their defense was rallied around their work in the circle as pitcher Makayla Corbin threw perfect game in five innings.

Angelo State added its five more runs on six hits in the fourth inning to improve to 2-0 against the Grizzlies. Brittany Phillips suffered the loss in the circle to more to 0-2 on the year.

Maleya Burns led the way going 3-4 with six RBI and two runs scored. Mykayla Stroud and Taegan Kirk also went 3-4, respectively. Stroud had three runs scored and a RBI, while Kirk totaled two RBI and scored a run. Corbin improved to 3-0 in the circle.

The Grizzlies will close out the Angelo State Tournament on Monday against the same two squads. Game times are set for 10 a.m. against Texas A&M International and 12:15 p.m. against Angelo State.
