SAN ANGELO, Texas – Adams State Softball a pair of games final day of the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge. The Grizzlies two losses move their record 0-9 on the year.
Game one matched the Grizzlies up against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils (4-7). Both teams had eight hits on the day but the Dustdevils scored seven runs and had just one error, while the Grizzlies had four errors and scored just three runs.
The game's first runs did not come until the second inning. Following a 1-2-3 setup to start the second, the Dustdevils scored a run on three hits to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Grizzlies responded in the top of the third with two runs scored on two hits to grab a 2-1 advantage.
Rachel Mobley singled to get on base.
Sarah Rocha and
Breanna Shaffer were then walked to load the bases.
Alyssa Berteaux-Solorzano then got on base on a RBI fielder's choice to bring Mobley and tie the game.
Mercedes Salazar followed her up with a RBI single to center to score Rocha.
Texas A&M International retook the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs. They produced their four runs on just one hit and a pair of Grizzly errors.
The Dustdevils then worked another three up three down inning in the fourth to lead 5-2 and added one run in the bottom of the frame on a solo homerun to lead by four runs.
Neither squad scored again until the sixth inning. Salazar scored the final run for Adams State as she led off with a double and advanced to third on the throw.
Hannah Wirtjes brought her home on a RBI single to right field to make a 6-3 game.
The Grizzlies managed one more hit in the sixth before the Dustdevils end the inning and left three runners stranded. They scored their final run, unearned, on a Grizzlies error to secure a 7-3 win and the 3-0 sweep for the tournament.
Salazar led Adams State with a 3-4 hitting performance with a RBI and a run scored.
Taylor Sandoval suffered the loss to move to 0-2. She three four complete innings and gave up eight hits.
Maddison Schofield was a perfect 2-2 in the game to lead Texas A&M International. She scored two runs, had a RBI, and a homerun. Morgan Chavarria went 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Jenika Lombrana picked up the win in the circle (1-3) after pitching the entire game. She fanned five batters, and allowed just three runs, all earned, on eight hits.
Game two for Adams State only went five innings as they dropped a 10-1 contest to host No. 6 Angelo State. Adams State was designated as the home team in this contest.
The Rambelles produced 10 runs on five hits and had just one error on the day. They held the Grizzlies to one run on three hits and forced four errors in the game. A leadoff error from the Grizzlies got the Belles on base right away. A walk and back-to-back doubles help the Belles jump out to a 3-0 lead.
The Grizzlies lone run in the game came in the first inning.
Samantha McDonald was walked to leadoff. She then stole second base and an error from the Belles catcher advanced her to third and ultimately allowed her to score.
Angelo State got the run back and added another to push its lead to 5-1 in the second inning. One hit was all that was needed as Adams State committed three errors to allow the two runs.
The score remained at 5-1 over the next two innings of work. Both squads played solid defense as neither allowed a hit during that span.
The Belles scored five runs in the fifth inning to help them seal a nine-run win. The Grizzlies walked the leadoff batter and allowed a triple down the right field line to give the Belles their sixth run of the game.
The Grizzlies then forced back-to-back pop ups to get two outs but then hit a batter and walked one to load the bases. Angelo State then hit a grand slam homerun to left center to bring the score to 5-1 before the Grizzlies got the third out.
A three up three down bottom of the fifth inning ended the game as the Belles picked up the win to sweep the three Grizzlies 3-0.
McDonald had the lone run scored for Adams State after being walked.

Brittany Phillips, and
Julia Jimenez all went 1-2. Phillips (0-3) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed five hits.
Courtney Barnhill led the Belles hitting charge with a 1-3 performance, including a grand slam homerun, five RBI, and three runs scored. Mykayla Stroud was 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Meagan Hill got the starting nod and picked up the win to move to 5-0. She worked four full innings and struck out three batter while giving up just one earned run on three hits.
The Grizzlies will continue their road trip this weekend as they head North to Denver for a four-game series at Regis on Feb. 16 and 17. The Grizzlies and Ranger will play a doubleheader each day and the game swill not count as conference contests.
