Adams State Falls to MSU Denver in Doubleheader Action

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Baseball and the MSU Denver Roadrunners went back at it today with a doubleheader, with the first game at noon and the second game at 2:50 pm.
 
The Grizzlies (6-19, 3-8 RMAC) looked to improve on what was a promising first game as they limited MSU Denver's offense and put up runs of their own as well. MSU Denver (15-7, 9-2 RMAC) looked to improve on the victory they were able to secure yesterday.
 
Adams State had a chance to strike early as Erik Hildebrandt led the game off with a double down the right field line, Nico Nintze then singled to center and then stole second after a strikeout, but with two runners in scoring position Adams State wasn't able to capitalize.
 
MSU Denver scored first as a single by Zach Walsh and a double by Jake Kistaitis brought in the first run of the game.
 
Adams State responded in the bottom of the third inning, with Hildebrandt reaching on an error and then scored on a single by Jared Gay. That was the only offense the Grizzlies could muster as the inning ended and the score remained 1-1.
 
MSU Denver was able to pull ahead in the fifth inning as after getting two quick outs, Cade Peters brought home the first run of the game with a double though the right side bringing in Chase Anderson. A wild pitch brought home Matt Malkin for the second run of the inning, Draven Adame then homered to left center bringing the third and fourth runs of the innings. Dalton Carleo was then replaced by Kolton Bleggi who let up the second home run of the inning to Zach Walsh, bringing the score the 6-1.
 
Jared Gay was able to drive in the second run of the game with a single to left field on a full count, bringing in Hildebrandt and bringing the Grizzlies closer.
 
MSU Denver wasn't done scoring yet though as they brought home two more runs in the sixth inning. Chase Anderson doubled to right field to bring in Aaron Germani and Matt Malkin followed that up with a two run home run to right center field to bring the total to nine runs for the Roadrunners.
 
Adams State tried to start chipping back as Dakota Solis brought in the third run of the game for the Grizzlies with a double to right center bringing in Patrick Huffaker.
 
The Grizzlies scored two more runs in the seventh inning, with a Logan Bistrup single and a Noah Befus single to bring in the two runs but that was all the scoring that would happen as the game ended with MSU Denver getting the victory, 9-5.
 
Adams State saw offense generated by Jared Gay, who had three hits and two RBI, Dakota Solis also had two hits and an RBI. Nico Nintze also reached base four times with two hits and two walks. Dalton Carleo threw 4.2 innings and had one strikeout as he took the loss and fell to 1-4 on the season.

For MSU Denver Matt Malkin once again led the team, with two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and a home run. Chase Anderson and Zach Walsh also had two hits and Walsh had a home run as well. Daven Adame had two RBI as well. Logan Soole threw six innings with 10 strikeouts and only two earned runs to get the win and move to 3-2 on the year.
  

Adams State looked for a hot start out of the gate in game two of the day as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, starting with a Dakota Solis triple down the right field line to bring in Jake Angelopulos, Nico Nintze followed up with a sac fly to bring in Solis and get the Grizzlies out to an early 2-0 lead.
 
MSU Denver didn't let the lead last long though as they had four straight hits to score three runs, Zach Walsh singled to right, Aaron Germani then doubled to right field and Ty Lightley grounded to second base, each bringing in one run and letting MSU Denver get a lead for the first time in the game.
 
MSU Denver kept the scoring going in the fourth as they brought five runs across, with the first two runs scoring off an Adams State fielding error. Two singles, one by Zach Paschke two bring in two more runs and then by Chase Anderson to bring in the fifth run of the inning.
 
Adams State responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth with Jared Gay leading off with a triple and Logan Bistrup bringing him in with a single to right center. MSU Denver scored again in the fifth, with the first run coming in on another Adams State fielding error, and the second run scored on a sac fly by Aaron Germani.
 
A home run by Logan Soole for the Roadrunners in the sixth inning brought two more runs home increasing the lead to 12-3 in favor of MSU Denver. The final run of the game came thanks to a double by MSU Denver's Andrew Chavez down the left field line.
 
Adams State was lead again by Dakota Solis who had a hit, a RBI, and a run scored. Nico Nintze and Logan Bistrup both had an RBI as well. Daniel Brennan started the game and threw five innings with one strikeout and only five earned runs. He took the loss and fell to 0-5 on the year.
 
For MSU Denver Zach Walsh had two hits, and RBI and two runs scored. Logan Soole had one hit but it was a home run to drive in two runs for the Roadrunners. John Badgett started the game and threw four innings with five strikeouts and earned the win, moving to 3-0 on the year.
 
The last game of the series will be tomorrow at 12 p.m. at the ASU Baseball Field as the Grizzlies will look to get a win to end the weekend.
