Roadrunners Take the First Two Games of the Four Game Series

ALAMOSA, Colo. ­– Adams State Softball falls to the Roadrunners in the opening double header of their four-game series. The MSU Denver Roadrunners defeated the Grizzlies 9-1 game one, and took the second game in six innings, 12-4.
 
The Grizzlies had a hard time offensively, setting them back 6-27 overall, and 6-15 in RMAC. MSU Denver jumped up to 17-19 overall, and 12-8 in RMAC. On the day, the Roadrunners put up a combined 22 runs in the two games.
 
MSU Denver found their way on to the board in the first inning with a leadoff double, and brought in their runner with a single down the right field line. The Roadrunners added a pair of runs in the top of the second with a homerun to left field.
 
The Grizzlies finally got on base in the bottom of the third. Kenzie Lange reached on a double, giving Adams State their first hit. Angel Micciulli followed with a double, scoring Lange to get the Grizzlies on the board, trailing 3-1.
 
In the top of the fourth, with two runners aboard, the Roadrunners singled through the left side scoring both and extending their lead 5-1. Adams State tried to counter in the bottom half with a lead-off double by Shelby Haskins. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies were not able to bring her in, which kept Adams State trailing by four.
 
Moving in to the top of the sixth, the Roadrunners added two more runs on the board. With a runner on first after getting hit by a pitch, MSU Denver tripled to score one. The Roadrunners brought in their second run on a base hit up the middle. Adams State did not respond in the bottom half of the inning, going three-up, three-down.
 
MSU Denver put up their final two runs in the top of the seventh. After back to back singles, the Roadrunners found a base hit up the middle and everyone advanced on a throwing error. The Roadrunners final run came from a ground out to first, scoring the runner at third.
 
MSU Denver put up nine runs on 12 hits. The Grizzlies put up one run on three hits. Brittany Phillips (2-8) made it through five innings and had four strikeouts.
 

 
Both teams came out strong in the second game. The game opened up with MSU Denver reaching on a throwing error. The Roadrunners scored on a single through the left side, putting MSU Denver up 1-0 in the top of the first.
 
Adams State answered in the bottom of the first beginning with a leadoff walk from Micciulli. Zoe Munn followed with a ground out to second, and advancing the runner. Haskins singled to right field, moving Micciulli to third and scoring on the throw. The Grizzlies tied it at one going in to the top of the second.
 
MSU Denver loaded the bases with two outs in the first half of the inning. The Grizzlies walked in a run, putting the Roadrunners up 2-1. MSU Denver capitalized with a bases loaded single to right center scoring three, leading 5-1.
 
Adams State got one back from a homerun by Lange, cutting the Roadrunner lead, 5-2. The Roadrunners added four more to the board in the top of the third. With another bases loaded single, MSU Denver scored three runs and advanced the batter to third on a fielding error. The runner on third scored on a wild pitch, giving the Roadrunners the 9-2 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Munn doubled down the left side, and advanced to third on the flyout by Haskins. Rebecca Wood doubled to left center, scoring Munn.
 
With a scoreless fourth, MSU Denver extended their lead in the fifth. After Roadrunner's leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt up the middle. The runner scored on a single through the middle, giving MSU Denver a lead of seven. The Roadrunners brought in their second run from a double to right center.
 
Adams State scored their final run in the bottom half of the inning. Micciulli hit a leadoff double to center field. Haskins brought her in with a single down the right field line. Going in to the top of the sixth, the Roadrunners lead 11-4.
 
With a leadoff single, followed by a Roadrunner triple, MSU Denver scored their final run in the top of the sixth. Adams State did not rally in the bottom half of the inning, which ended the game 12-4.
 
Haskins was the leader for the Grizzlies, going 2-3 with two RBIs. The Grizzlies had eight hits on their four runs in the second game, with pitcher Jade Garbiso throwing a complete game.
 
The Grizzlies will be back on the diamond at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. tomorrow to close their four-game series with the Roadrunners.
