Thunderwolves Take the First Two of Four from the Grizzlies

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies fall to the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves in both games of the double header.
 
This set back puts the Grizzlies at 6-29 overall and 6-17 in RMAC. The Thunderwolves move to 8-20 overall and 7-17 in RMAC.
 
The Thunderwolves got off on a good start scoring two in the first. The first run came from reaching on an error then being brought in from a single to left field. CSU-Pueblo added a third run in the bottom of the second, off of a single to third base, then being brought in from a double to center field.
 
In the top of the third, the Grizzlies tried to bounce back with a lead off double to right center from Sarah Hansen. Kyrah Archibald came in to run for Hansen, and advanced to third from a sac bunt by Kenzie Lange. Unfortunately, the Thunderwolves were able to escape without giving up any runs.
 
The Grizzlies finally got on the board in the top of the fourth. Shelby Haskins reached on a lead-off walk. After Aubrey Ramos came into pinch run for Haskins, Brittany Phillips doubled to right center, advancing Ramos to third. Baylie Fryar singled to right, to score Ramos. The Grizzlies trailed the Thunderwolves 3-1 going in to the bottom half of the inning.
 
The following two half innings stayed quiet. The Thunderwolves spoke up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three. With two aboard, a single down the line drove in one run. A Wild pitch allowed CSU-Pueblo to score their fifth run. Their sixth and final run came from a base clearing single, extending their lead by five.
 
The Grizzlies began to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Jade Garbiso led off with a single to right center. After a walk from Rachel Mobley, Phillips doubled to right center scoring both Garbiso and Mobley. The game wrapped up 6-3, giving Garbiso her 15 loss on the season (2-15).
 
Leading the Grizzlies in game one was Hansen going 2-3 from the plate, and Phillips going 2-4 with two doubles.
 
 
The Grizzlies played a close second game scoring their first run in the top of the first. Sarah Rocha doubled out to left field, and was brought in by a single up the middle from Haskins.
 
With a one-two-three bottom of the first inning, Adams State led the Thunderwolves 1-0 through the bottom of the fourth. With a lead-off single through the right side, CSU-Pueblo added a tally to the board from a double down the right field line.
 
Tied at one going in to the bottom of the fifth, the Thunderwolves were able to take the lead. After three singles across the outfield, the Thunderwolves led the Grizzlies 3-1 going in to the sixth inning.
 
The Grizzlies got one back in the top of the sixth. Phillips hit a lead-off single to left field and was advanced to third by a single to left center from Hannah Wirtjes. A single from Alyssa Solorzano scored Phillips, cutting the Thunderwolf lead to one.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Thunderwolves led off with a triple to left center. CSU-Pueblo got their fourth and final run from a sac bunt to score their runner at third.
 
Adams State started a comeback in the top of the seventh, with a lead off single from Mercedes Salazar through the left side. As Archibald came in to run for Salazar, Rocha doubled to center field. Archibald advanced to third, and scored on an error. The Grizzlies came close falling 4-3 to the Thunderwolves.
 
Leading the Grizzlies offensively were Solorzano going 2-3, and both Phillips and Wirjes going 2-4.
 
The Grizzlies will meet the Thunderwolves out on the diamond for their final two games of the series at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Pueblo, Colorado.
