Grizzlies Set to Take On Orediggers in First Round of RMAC Tournament

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Men's Basketball begins postseason play Tuesday night as the team is set to take on Colorado School of Mines in Golden in the first round of the RMAC Tournament.

Tip-Off
• Adams State enters the 2018-19 postseason with final regular season record of 11-16 and went 11-11 in RMAC play to finish .500.
• The Grizzlies secured the No. 8 spot in the RMAC Tournament thanks to a 90-79 win at Fort Lewis College last Friday and with the help of a Chadron State loss to MSU Denver.
• Adams State will look to play the upset bid when they take on the top-seeded team in the RMAC Tournament in Colorado School of Mines.
• If the Grizzlies win, they will remain on the road to take on the winner between No. 4 Black Hills State and No. 5 Colorado Mesa.

Adams State Breakdown
• The Grizzlies finished the regular season fifth in the RMAC in scoring. They averaged 80 points per game on 44.3% shooting and were 31.4% from three-point range.
• On defense, Adams State gave up an average of 81.3 points per game on 46.9%. Opponents averaged a 35.6 shooting percentage from deep against Adams State.
• The Grizzlies were fourth in the RMAC in free throw percentage at 74.4. They were third in rebounds at 37.4 per game. They led the RMAC in offensive boards at 12.1 per game.
• John Dewey is still the Grizzlies top scorer at 20.9 points per game on 41.5% shooting. His scoring average was second highest in the RMAC. His percentage was 15th.
• Davere Creighton is second in scoring at 14.9 points per game which ranked 12th in the RMAC. He leads the team and RMAC in rebounds at 8.1 per game.
• Shemar Johnson averages 13.2 points per game for the Grizzlies on a 59.8 shooting percentage. His percentage was eighth in the RMAC in the regular season.
• Rickey Norris is second on the team in rebounding at 6.4 per game, which ranked tied 11th in the RMAC. He averages just under 10 points per game at 8.7
• Dewey still leads the Grizzlies in assists averaging 4.2 per game. He was fourth in the RMAC in assists and his 1.7 steals per game was third while leading the team.
• Norris is the team's top shot blocker. He averages 1.0 per game and was eighth in the RMAC in regular season with his average.
• Dewey finished the regular season as the RMAC leader in free throw percentage at 92.8% on 155-167 made shots. His percentage is fourth best in all of Division II.

Scouting Colorado School of Mines
• The Orediggers enter the postseason with a 24-4 overall record and went 21-1 in RMAC play to finish first overall. They are ranked No. 14 in the latest installment of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) top-25 poll.
• Colorado School of Mines finished the regular season as the second-highest scoring team in the RMAC averaging 83 points per game on 50.4% shooting.
• The Orediggers also had the second best scoring defense holding opponents to 69.6 points per game on 43.1% shooting overall.
• Colorado School of Mines also boasted the best three-point field goal percentage averaging 40.3% from deep. They led the RMAC in free throw percentage as well at 77.4%.
• Four players enter the postseason averaging double figures. Mason Baker leads the way at 15.5 points per game on 47% shooting.
• Ben Sonnefeld is the second leading scorer at 14 points per game and is second best in field goal percentage ta 48.2%.
• Ben Clare and Michael Glen round out the double-digit scorers at 12.1 and 11.4 points per game, respectively. Clare led the RMAC in field goal percentage at 58.5%.
• Glen leading the rebounding efforts at 6.6 per game, with Clare right behind him at 5.9. Both ranked top-20 in the RMAC during the regular season.
• Sonnefeld continues to facilitate the offense averaging 4.5 assists per game for the Orediggers. His average was tops in the RMAC.
• Glen also boasts the defense averaging 1.4 blocked shots per contest. He was the RMAC leader and not far beind him was Clare averaging 1.2 swats per game.
• Baker leads the way in steals averaging 1.3 per game. Sonnefeld also helped out with an average one 1.0 per game.
• Baker is also the team's top free throw shooter averaging 87.8% on 137-156 made shots. his average was second highest in the RMAC.

• The semifinal and championship rounds will hosted by the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
