ALAMOSA, Colo. –The Adams State Grizzlies take one of two from the Regis Rangers in day one of their two game series. The Rangers took game one 5-2, and the Grizzlies wrapped up the second game 8-0 in six innings.
The Rangers started the game off with a single in to the shortstop. Doubling down the left field line to score their first run. Regis scored their second run from a sac fly to center field.
After the Rangers got off to an early lead, the Grizzlies got one back in the bottom of the first.
Samantha McDonald singled to left field then advanced to third from a steal and a throwing error by the catcher.
Sarah Rocha grounded out, to score McDonald.
With a quiet second inning, the Rangers led off with a homerun to centerfield. The Grizzlies responded in the bottom of the third.
Angel Micciulli hit a ball deep down the left field line to score an in the park homerun. The Grizzlies trialed 3-2 moving in to the fourth.
The Grizzlies and Rangers played solid defense in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. In the top of the seventh the Rangers led off with a line out to left field. The Rangers followed with a triple to deep center field. The Ranger's fourth run was brought in by a sac fly to center field. Regis scored their fifth and final run from a homerun to centerfield.
Leading the Grizzlies on the bats in game one was
Baylie Fryar, going 2-3 with two singles.
Brittany Phillips pitched a full seven with three strikeouts.
In game two, the Grizzlies got off to a good start. With one out, McDonald singled on a bunt to get on and was advanced to second from Sarah Rocha. Shelby Haskins grounded out to advance both runners. Phillips hit a bases clearing triple to score both McDonald and Rocha.
The Grizzlies added their third run in the bottom of the third. Rocha reached on her second walk of the game. Haskins grounded out to second base, which advanced Rocha to second. Phillips singled to right center to bring Rocha home.
Fryar led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to second base.
Rebecca Wood singled to right center, scoring Fryar and advanced to third on the throwing error. McDonald singled to third, to score Wood, extending the Grizzlies lead 5-0.
After a quiet fifth, Adams State closed the game in the bottom of the sixth. Fryar led off with a single down the right field line.
Hannah Wirtjes singled and advanced Fryar to second when coming in to pinch hit. Micciulli reentered for Wirtjes as McDonald singled up the middle. On the single, Fryar scored and Micciulli advanced to second. Rocha followed with a double to left center, scoring Micciulli and moving McDonald to third. With the Grizzlies leading 7-0, Haskins ended the game with singled to right field to score eighth run.
The Grizzlies scored their eight runs on 13 hits.
Jade Garbiso pitched a full six innings, giving up only three hits with three strikeouts.
Phillips went 3-3 in game two with three RBI. McDonald went 3-4 with two RBI and scored two runs.
The Grizzlies will make their way out to the ASU Softball Field for the final time this season. Adams State's final home games are set to start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. They will honor their four seniors in between games one and two.
