ALAMOSA, Colo. – The final game of the series between Adams State and CSU-Pueblo occurred Saturday morning with the first pitch at noon. Adams State (8-34, 8-23 RMAC) was hoping to tie the series at two wins apiece and CSU-Pueblo (20-21, 15-13 RMAC) hoped to win the series against Adams State.
After a quiet first inning without either team scoring, the ThunderWolves leapt ahead in the second inning with 6 runs, JP Hopkins singled through the left side to bring home the first two runs. A hit by pitch and another single scored two more runs. The last two runs of the inning scored on a fielding error by Adams State.
Adams State scored in the bottom of the third inning with an
Erik Hildebrandt triple to left center field and a
Logan Bistrup sacrifice fly to score Hildebrandt.
Two more runs came in the bottom of the fourth with
Dakota Solis doubling to right center scoring
Josh Billingham and Josh Angelopulos.
JP Hopkins brought in two more runs for the ThunderWolves in the fifth with a double to left center and increasing the lead for CSU-Pueblo.
The top of the sixth inning was when the power came out for CSU-Pueblo, Dakota Popham homered to center field bringing in two runs, and next batter Rion Santamaria homered to left field to bring in the eleventh run of the game.
JP Hopkins continued his good day with a home run to center field in the seventh inning.
Hopkins kept it up for CSU-Pueblo in the ninth inning with his second home run of the game, this time to right center field.
The last run of the game was scored by Adams State in the bottom of the ninth when
Cameron Brosh grounded out to the shortstop bringing home
Tyler Erzen.
That was not enough though as CSU-Pueblo kept the lead and got the win 13-5, with this win they also secured the series winning three of the four games.
Adams State was led by
Erik Hildebrandt who had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Nico Nintze also had three hits and
Dakota Solis drove in two runs.
Josh Billingham also scored two runs.
Dalton Carleo started the game and pitched 5.1 innings with only one walk and three strikeouts.
Connor Flynn pitched 3.0 innings in relief and only allowed one run on three hits.
JP Hopkins drove in six runs on four hits and scored three runs including hitting two home runs. Rion Santamaria also had three hits an RBI and three runs scored.
Nick Zappala started the game and pitched 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. Gunner Pickett pitched 5.0 innings only allowing one run with six strikeouts.
Adams State will be back on the road for the last road series of the year heading up to Denver to face Regis University in a four game series with the first pitch being at Friday, April 26th at 3 p.m.
