Grizzlies Fall in Game One at Regis University

DENVER – Adams State traveled to Denver this weekend as they clash with the Regis University Rangers.
 
Both teams came into this series looking to improve their fortunes from last weekend, with Adams State (8-35, 5-24 RMAC) trying to improve on the one win series against CSU-Pueblo. Regis (14-28, 9-20 RMAC) also had a one win series against Dixie State last weekend.
 
The game started in a pitcher's duel with only a few scattered hits throughout the first three innings, the bottom of the third is when the first run of the afternoon was scored for Regis on a throwing error by Adams State, the second run was immediately brought in afterwards with a double down the left field line.
 
Regis added another run in the next inning with a RBI single through the left side bringing the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Rangers.
 
Coby Zimmerman homered in the bottom of the fifth inning for Regis, bringing in two runs and increasing the lead to 5-0.
 
Adams State got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, Nico Nintze singled through the right side bringing Erik Hildebrandt home to score. Patrick Huffaker doubled two batter later to left field, scoring both Nintze and Jared Gay.
 
Regis scored again in the sixth inning with a RBI double down the left field line scoring two runs and increasing the lead to four, 7-3.
 
The final runs of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two RBI single to right center for Regis.
 
Despite eight hits the Grizzlies could not produce runs and fell in game one, 9-3.
 
Patrick Huffaker did most of the damage for the Grizzlies, with two hits and two RBI. Nico Nintze also had a hit and a RBI for Adams State.
 
Daniel Brennan started the game for Adams State pitched 5.0 innings, with two strikeouts. Connor Flynn pitched 2.0 innings in relief with two strikeouts and only one hit allowed.
 
Coby Zimmerman led the Rangers with two RBI, three runs scored and a home run. Jacob Barr also had one hits and two RBI.
 
Chris Isbell started the game and pitched 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts and no walks.
 
The two teams are back in action on Saturday for a double header, first pitch will be at 12 p.m.
