Denver – The second day of competition got under way at Regis University today with Adams State looking to come back after a day one loss. Regis hoped to keep the winning streak alive.
Game one was a low scoring affair as both Adams State (8-36, 5-25 RMAC) and Regis (16-28, 11-20 RMAC) scored five runs between the two of them.
Both teams stayed scoreless in the first inning both getting no one on base. Adams State scored in the second inning, with
Orlando Romero reaching on a fielder's choice bringing home
Jared Gay who had tripled to start the inning.
Regis took the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs, a double to right field and a fielder's choice which brought in the second run of the inning.
The third run for Regis scored on a single in the bottom of the fourth bringing in the third run of the game for the Rangers.
The Grizzlies scored in the top of the fifth inning as
Dakota Solis hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring
Billy Ryan. Adams State had a chance to take the lead with the bases loaded but could not bring home the tying run.
The last two innings went quickly with the Grizzlies having a chance to score in the top of the seventh but once again weren't able to get base hits with runners in scoring position. The final score was Regis getting the win 3-2.
Erik Hildebrandt had two hits for the Grizzlies and a walk.
Orlando Romero and
Dakota Solis both had an RBI.
Dalton Carleo pitched the entire game for Adams State and had two strikeouts and only one earned run and one walk.
Mickey Meinhofer, Conner Rochon, and Kennedy Phillips all had one hit and one RBI for the Rangers.
Justin Kleinsorge started the game and pitched 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and only two earned runs.
Game Two –
Adams State got on the board first with a single to left center by
Nico Nintze which drove in
Logan Bistrup who had tripled the batter before.
Regis tied the game in the bottom of the first, as a single through the left side bringing in the first run of the game for the Rangers.
Adams State exploded for six runs in the top of the second inning, the scoring started with
Paul Giglio singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a throwing error.
Dakota Solis scored on the play.
Nico Nintze brought in the next run of the inning, doubling to left field and bringing in
Paul Giglio.
Jared Gay followed that up with a double to center field bringing home both Nintze and
Logan Bistrup.
Cameron Brosh continued the big inning for the Grizzlies with a double to right field bringing home Gay for the sixth run of the game for Adams State. The final run of the inning scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.
Regis started to creep back in the bottom of the second, with a two run double to right center by Mickey Meinhofer.
The scoring run continued in the bottom of the third with a home run by Connor Rochon to right center. A fielder's choice and a throwing error scored the fifth run of the game for the Rangers.
Regis took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a flurry of hits, starting with a two RBI single to left center to tie the game at seven apiece. There lead was taken with a double to left center scoring two more runs. A fielding error scored the tenth run of the game and a double down the left field line. A single to center field and a double to right field scored three more runs and at the end of the inning, Regis was up 13-7.
The Rangers brought home two more runs in the fifth, with a double to left center, and a single to center field. Bringing the score to 15-7.
Five runs scored in the sixth inning for the Rangers, it started with a double to center field, a double down the left field line. A single to the shortstop and a single through the left side brought home two more runs. The final run of the inning was scored on a single up the middle to bring the score to 20-7 for the Rangers.
Adams State scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning with
Eric Sommerfeld singling to right field to bring in
Zach Thomas. That was not nearly enough as the Rangers took game three, 20-8.
Jared Gay had three hits and two RBI for the Grizzlies,
Nico Nintze had two hits and two RBI as well for Adams State,
Cameron Brosh had two hits and an RBI for the Grizzlies as well.
Troy Gutbub started the game and pitched 3.0 innings with one strikeout and no walks.
Jamison Fuentes and
Dominic Lomeli both had two strikeouts in relief.
Connor Rochon had four hits and five RBI for the Rangers with three runs scored as well. Mickey Meinhofer had three hits, three RBI and two runs scored as well.
Cobe Karhoff started the game and pitched 1.2 innings with three strikeouts, Adam Hubley pitched 2.1 innings in relief with five strikeouts.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow for the series finale with the first pitch at 12 p.m.
