ALAMOSA, Colo. – The last game of the series between Adams State and UC Colorado Springs was the highest scoring affair of the weekend as the Mountain Lions (21-13, 13-7 RMAC) offense was firing on all cylinders and Adams State (7-27, 4-16 RMAC) could not match the production. Falling by a score of 17-3 to UC Colorado Springs and losing the series 3-1.
 
The game started slowly as both teams could not figure out either starting pitcher right away. UC Colorado Springs scored first on a sacrifice fly Matt Clarke to left field to drive in the first run of the game in the second run of the game.
Adams State tied the game in the bottom of the second as 
Patrick Huffaker singled up the middle to bring 
Orlando Romero around to score and tie the game as the fourth game of the series was off to a close start.
 
The game stayed tied until the fifth inning as the Mountain Lions finally were able to get to the Grizzlies starter, 
Dalton Carleo. The first run came in to re –take the lead for the Mountain Lions on a Matt Berg single to right field. The scoring continued with a double by Cody Norton to bring in the next two runs for the Mountain Lions. A single to left center and a double to left field increased the lead to 6-1 in favor of UC Colorado Springs.
 
Jake Angelopulos scored in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch in to cut the lead to four runs and put Adams State back in striking distance.
 
The bottom of the seventh is when UC Colorado Springs started to pull away. A double down the right field line by Evan Richards to score the first run in the inning. Norton singled to left field to bring in two more runs, Ryan Schmidt doubled down the left field line to bring in the next two runs. The scoring ended with a Walker Rumsey double to left center to bring in the 12th run of the game for UC Colorado Springs.
 
Jared Gay hit a no doubt home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning for his sixth homerun of the year which leads the team.
 
The top of ninth the score increased again as Alex Bates doubled to left center bringing in a run, Ryan Schmidt then homered to right center bringing three more runs in. The final score of the game was by Austin Allen who singled up the middle driving in the 17th run of the game.
 
Leaders on offense for Adams State included 
Patrick Huffaker, who had two hits and an RBI and 
Jared Gay who had two hits including a home run and one RBI. 
Erik Hildebrandt and 
Jake Angelopulos had the only other two hits for Adams State.
 
Dalton Carleo started the game and pitched well until the fifth inning where he gave up five of his six allowed runs. He only allowed eight hits and had one strikeout.
 
Ryan Schmidt had four hits for UC Colorado Springs, including a home run and six RBI. Cody Norton had two hits and four RBI as well.
 
Daniel Silva started the game and pitched 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and only allowing one run and four hits to get the win.
 
Adams State is on the road next week as they take on the best team in the country at Colorado Mesa University. First pitch of the four-game series will be at 6 p.m. on April 12th.
