ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Women's Volleyball is ready to take on a pair of double headers in Durango, Colo. at the Skywawk Volleyball Tournament. The Grizzlies will take on Western New Mexico and West Texas A&M tomorrow, Friday Sept. 13 and face Texas A&M International and Washburn University Saturday, Sept. 14.
Adams State is coming off a couple of hard played sets against Angelo State on Tuesday Sept. 10. The Grizzlies had a great third set, leading the beginning of the set and keeping it close 24-26.
The Grizzlies are heading in to the weekend 1-4 with momentum. Adams State will first face Western New Mexico at 9:30 a.m. These two teams have quite the history, seeing each other in 20 games over the last 13 years. The Mustangs are 14-6 over the Grizzlies historically. Most recently the Grizzlies came out on top winning a close match 3-2 in 2018. In five very close sets,
Hannah Goddard lead the Grizzlies with 18 kills,
Shannon Mulkey with 8 blocks, and
Mackenzie Swanson with 23 digs. The Mustangs are coming off a 2-3 loss against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks and are 2-3 overall this season. The Grizzlies at a great game to start off the Skyhawk Tournament.
Adams State will then take on the 3-0 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M. Historically the Grizzlies are 1-5 against the Lady Buffs. Adams State saw the Lady Buffs last year in Canyon, Texas with the Buffs coming out on top 3-0. Adams State got the 3-1 win in 2016. Service is set to start at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Saturday, the Grizzlies will serve up Texas A&M International at 8:30 a.m. The Dust Devils are coming in to the weekend 2-1. Last year the Dust Devils went 5-21 overall and 3-9 in the Heartland Conference. This will be the first year Adams State and Texas A&M International will face off.
The Grizzlies will close the tournament off against Washburn University. The Ichabod are moving in to the season 4-0. These two teams last squared up in 2015 at neural site Colorado Springs. After a couple of very close sets, Washburn came out on top 3-0.
