Grizzlies Dig First Win of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KEARNEY, Neb. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team split their double header in the final day of the Loper Invite. The Grizzlies got their first win against the Findlay Oilers 3-0 in their first game of today's double header.
 
Adams State came out ready to play today with a well fought first match. The Grizzlies and Oilers went back and forth for the first set, finishing with Adams State on top 25-21.
 
Set two started off very close, with the Oilers keeping the Grizzlies within a one to two-point lead. The Grizzlies went on a 9-2 run to pull away for the rest of the game. Adams State rallied the victory 25-15.
 
Findlay kept the start of set three close, tying the score four times early on. The Grizzlies kept the lead for the entirety of the match and finished off strong 25-18.
 
Riley Ogelvie led the Grizzlies on the attack with 10 kills. Bailey Schlosser and Maya Waddington added to the offense with 16 and 13 assists. Defensively, Hannah Goddard and Amaya Young led the team with 10 digs a piece.
 
Adams State closed their time at the Loper Invite, facing the Augustana Vikings. The two teams kept a great volley, juggling the score back and forth tying the game up eight times with four different lead changes. Adams State pulled away with the win 25-23.
 
Adams State handled three sets with poise as the Grizzlies and Vikings battled for the win. The Vikings reigned victorious in the remaining sets of the match, winning 25-20, 25-15 and 25-22. In the four sets, the scores were tied 26 times with 15 lead changes.
 
Goddard jumped in to the Grizzlies attack with 14 kills and 10 digs. Following Goddard, Schlosser joined the attack with 11 kills. The influential playmakers of the game were Schlosser and Waddington racking up 40 assists between the two of them. Defensively, Young and McKenzie Swanson each had 18 digs.
 
The Grizzlies have a very bright season ahead and will be back in Alamosa for their home opener at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10.
