ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State University men's soccer team suffered their second consecutive loss to open their season Saturday after losing to Saint Martin's University 5-0, on the road. Despite the six saves by senior
Jacob Faircloth, the Grizzlies were unable to put anything together offensively. With the loss, Adams State falls to 0-2 on the year.
Saint Martin's Jason Fairhurst scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Cole Mattison put the Saints up to 2-0 on an assist from teammates Sebastian Navarro and Brandon Madsen in the 17th minute. SMU would take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half SMU would score three more goals starting with a bicycle kick in the 71st minute. Less than two minutes later Brandon Madsen would score off a penalty kick. And in the 78th minute Erik De Anda would score from 5 yards out in the middle of the box to put the Saints up 5-0. Adams would only attempt 7 shots versus 25 for Saint Martin's.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Friday, September 20th against CSU-Pueblo to open up conference play.
