Adams State Grapplers Hit the West Coast To Kick Off the New Year

San Francisco, CA – The Adams State wrestling squad looks to open the new year on the West Coast, competing at San Francisco State against Simon Fraser University, San Francisco State, and Minnesota State. Ten grapplers look to sport Adams State green this weekend before heading into RMAC competition next weekend.

Keeping Up with the Grizzlies
This weekend marks the first time the Grizzlies head into duals this season, opening against Minnesota State at 10 a.m. Friday. Following, at noon Adams State will face Simon Fraser University, then RMAC foes San Fransisco State at 2 p.m. Adams State comes into the duals ranked No. 11 in Division II and look for their first sets of wins this weekend.

Grizzlies last saw action mid December at the 41st annual Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Adams State would be represented well in the lighter weight classes, having two first place finishes within the 133 and 141 weight classes. Noah Hermosillo and Jonathan Andreatta would earn their spots at the top of the podium after being unbeaten throughout the weekend. Josiah Rider would come close to earning another first place finish within the 149-pound weight class but would finish at 3rd after being upset in the semi-final against Tiffin University's Christopher Donathan.

All three grapplers look to hit the mats this weekend to continue the 2019-20 season.

Scouting Minnesota State
The Mavericks entered 2020 ranked No. 15 in Division II before falling to No. 23 Western Colorado University last weekend 19-24. Notable Maverick grapplers include junior Kyle Rathman (149 lbs) and seniors Zach Johnston (174 lbs) and Louie Sanders (141 lbs).

Scouting Simon Fraser
The Clan faced a tough falling last week to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at home after starting with a 12-6 lead over the eagles. Simon Fraser would score only six more points while the Eagles would come flying back to secure the win 26-18 over the Clan.
Prominent weapons for the clan include Chase Tebbets (149 lbs) and Logan Nelson (174 lbs) who both went undefeated in the Desert Duals in late December.

Scouting San Francisco State
The Gators saw the mats just last week, competing in the Menlo Open and finishing with plenty of place-winners. Mason Boutain (149 lbs), Maximilian Schneider (157 lbs), and Justin Pichedwatana (184 lbs) would all win their respected weight classes, with more second through fourth place finishes throughout the team. Gators come in 6-2 overall and ranked No. 25 in Division II.
