San Francisco, CA – The Adams State University wrestling squad kicked off their first duals of the 2019-20 season early Friday morning, facing Minnesota State – Mankato, Simon Fraser University, and San Francisco State. Grizzlies would walk away with two statement wins, including a conference win over SF State, but would come up short against the Mavericks of Minnesota State – Mankato.
To kick off the duals Friday morning, Adams State would come face to face with an explosive Minnesota State team to come up just a point short in the end, falling 21-22. The Grizzlies would bounce back in their noon matchup against Simon Fraser and earn a 36-9 victory over the Clan. For their last dual of the day, the Grizzlies would face RMAC opponents San Francisco State and earn their first conference victory of the season, beating out the Gators 20-25. Adams State would rack up 77 points on the day and move onto RMAC competition 2-1 overall, and 1-0 within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
In the first dual of the day, Isiah DeLaCerda (125 lbs) would get things rolling by putting up the first Adams State points on the board after beating Minnesota State's Trenton McManus by decision, 7-3.
Jonathan Andreatta (133 lbs) would earn the first victory by fall, pinning his opponent in under a minute and a half to add six points to the Grizzly lead.
Noah Hermosillo (141 lbs) would add three points to the already outstanding lead.
Ryan Rochford (157 lbs) would have the second pin of the day to tack on another six points to the Adams State lead. Following would be
Gavin Davy (165 lbs), beating out his opponent for an 11-9 win by decision.
The Grizzlies would rack up 21 points but would still come up short against the Mavericks. Adams State would dominate early in the lighter, weight-classes but began to fall short as the younger developing guys came through.

For their second dual, Adams State came face to face with foes from North of the border. The Grizzlies would become victorious after a heartbreaking defeat and only allow nine points to Simon Fraser University.
Isaiah DeLaCerda and
Jonathan Andreatta would put up the first 12 points for Adams State, Andreatta putting his opponent down 1:25 into the bout. Hermosillo would have another win by decision, only allowing two points to his seven.
Freshman phenom,
Josiah Rider would come through with his first victory of the day in the 149-pound weight class, earning a victory by decision 3-1.
In the 157-pound weight class,
Ryan Rochford would put up an impressive victory by fall, pinning his opponent in 55 seconds.
Gavin Davy would also hop on the victory train, winning his match by decision 13-7.
William Tyler (184 lbs) would bounce back after the Minnesota State dual, by pinning his opponent in 2:32 and racking on another six points to the Adams State lead.
In the 197-pound class, Cole Gustavson would also earn his first victory on the day, winning by decision 4-3.
The Grizzlies would come out victorious, successfully bouncing back from the nail-biter falling against Minnesota State – Mankato. Adams State would put up 36 points and only allow the clan 9 total team points.

Coming into dual No. 3 of the day 1-1, the Grizzlies looked for a second victory over San Francisco State to secure their first conference win of the season.
Isiah DeLaCerda,
Jonathan Andreatta, and
Noah Hermosillo would put up 16 unanswered points to kick off the conference dual including a win by major decision by Andreatta, only allowing two points to his 12. All three would be 3-0 on the weekend.
Gavin Davy would earn another victory by decision, putting up seven points to his opponents five. Davy would also be undefeated on the weekend. Issac Lopez (174 lbs) would put up another three points for the Grizzlies, winning by decision 7-3.
Cole Gustavson would earn his second victory of the day, dominating his opponent and only allowing three points to his ten.
