Alamosa, CO – The Adams State Wrestling team looks to take on the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys tomorrow night for a second week of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at home. The dual is set to begin at 6 P.M. in the Plachy Hall gym with the 125-pound bout, featuring Adams State's
Isaiah De La Cerda. Grizzly fans are encouraged to come cheer on your Adams State grapplers as admission for students is free with ID, and regular admission will be $1 to celebrate Adams State University's Dollar Night.
Keeping Up With the Grizzlies
Adams State comes into the second week of conference action 2-2 on the season, and ranked No. 11 in the NWCA Coaches Poll. Grizzlies faced a heartbreaking upset last week to No. 23 Western State Colorado, falling to the Mountaineers at home 31-12.
133 Pounder
Jonathan Andreatta would put up the first points for the Grizzlies, winning his bout by decision, 8-2.
Noah Hermosillo would follow up with another three points, also earning a decision victory over Jason Hanenburg.
Josiah Rider would also continue to show out last week, keeping his opponent scoreless and earning a 6-0 decision victory. Rider comes in ranked No. 7 in the 149-pound weight class.
Cole Gustavson would earn the last victory for the Grizzlies, holding Western State's Espen Weber to six points to his 12 in the 197-pound bout.
Scouting the Cowboys
New Mexico Highlands competed in two conference bouts last week, sending two separate squads to San Francisco State to put up a 27-20 victory against the Gators and to Golden, Colorado to fall to the No. 18 Orediggers 31-16.
141-Pounder Jonathan Trujillo would put up a victory by pinfall against Colo. School of Mine's Taylor Gambil to give the Cowboys the first six points of the dual. Logan Pine would earn another three points for the Cowboys, earning a 10-5 decision victory in the 149 -pound bout.
Over on the West Coast, Isaac Garcia would earn the first five points for the Cowboys, earning a victory by technical fall in the 133-pound bout. Highlands grapplers saw two more victories by pinfall before claiming a 27-20 victory over the Gators.
