Pueblo, CO – The Adams State wrestling squad hits the road this week to face off against the Colorado State University at Pueblo, Thunderwolves for week three of conference action. Thursday marks the first time Grizzly grapplers go face to face with an RMAC opponent on the road since the beginning of the month when Adams State earned a 25-20 victory over San Francisco State at the San Francisco State duals. Grizzlies head into week three with an overall record of 3-2 including a 1-1 record within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Keeping Up With the Grizzlies
Adams State grapplers last saw the mats at home for two consecutive weeks, last earning a 36-9 victory over New Mexico Highlands and increasing their record to 3-2 on the season. The night would kick off with a 174-pound exhibition match between
Gavin Davy and Jacob Viera. Davy would set the tone for the Grizzlies, earning a 7-3 decision victory over Viera.
After the exhibition, Grizzly grapplers would take away both 125 and 133-pound bouts including a win by technical fall by
Jonathan Andreatta. Andreatta would keep NM Highlands' Isaac Garcia scoreless while putting up 17 points.
Grizzlies would take away all bouts between the 149 and 197-pound weight classes, including two wins by pinfall in the 149 and 165-pound bouts by No. 9
Josiah Rider and
Ryan Rochford.
Isaac Lopez would take away a victory by major decision in the 174 bout, putting up 11 points to his opponents two.
Grizzly grapplers look for another great performance this week, looking to create a win-streak as the season moves on.
Scouting the Thunderwolves
The Thunderwolves come into week 3 of conference bouts with an overall record of 2-4 on the season including a 1-1 record within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Pack last met Colorado Mesa for an RMAC showdown on Maverick territory that would come down to the final four bouts to end on another victory for the nationally ranked Colorado Mesa wrestling squad.
The Pack would earn victories in four of the ten matches including a victory by pinfall in the 157-pound bout by Ruben Garcia over Erik Contreras. Gavin Nye would also earn a victory by pinfall in the heavyweight bout after only a 1:36 elapsed. Gavin Melendez would earn a victory by major decision in the 149-pound bout over Dylan Fuch.
Action is set to kick off at 6:00 pm on Thursday in the Massari Arena on CSU-Pueblo's main campus.
