Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Aaron Kinnischtzke - Sports Information Director

Grizzlies Ground Eagles for First Victory of 2020

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team got back to their winning ways Friday night, defeating their conference foes, the Chadron State Eagles at home 81-78. The game was a grind it out victory for the Grizzlies, who had previously lost four-straight. They now sit at 4-8 overall, 2-4 in RMAC play.

The first have saw points hard to come by for both teams, as the Eagles took a 31-28 lead into halftime. The offense picked up in the second half, and the Grizzlies were the beneficiaries of timely big shots from their marksmen Rylan O'brien and Logan Longo, who combined for four daggers from downtown, three of which came late in the second half. O'brien finished with 16 points in the game, and Longo ended his night with 8 off the bench.

The Grizzlies were led by their two senior stars, guard Szymon Walczak and Rickey Norris, who put the Grizzlies on their backs on both the offensive and defensive ends. The two posted similar nights on the stat sheet, as Walczak led all scorers with 17 to go with 4 tough rebounds and 2 steals as well as a block on the defensive end, and Norris concluded his strong night off the bench with 16 points as well as 4 rebounds, 2 steals and a block of his own. The senior duo provided the spark the Grizzlies needed in the game to get back on the winning track and defeat Chadron in a tight game that featured 6 lead changes and 5 ties.

The win Friday night was the Grizzlies' fourth of the season, and their third at home. They have defended home court successfully in two-straight RMAC contests, defeating New Mexico Highlands back on December 7th in a thriller, and the win Friday night against Chadron was no different, as the Grizzlies clawed their way to another close victory at home.

The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team led by coach Russ Caton have showed fight and toughness all season long, and it paid off for them in a big win versus Chadron. They look to make it two-straight as they prepare to host the Metro State Denver Roadrunners on Saturday again at home. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM from Plachy Hall, with live stream and Stats provided by the athletics website at ASUGrizzlies.com.
