ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Basketball team heads back out on the road to take on two more RMAC competitors. The Grizzlies will first travel to Golden, Colorado to challenge Colorado School of Mines, Friday, Jan. 10 at 6:00 p.m. Adams State will then come down to take on UC-Colorado Springs, Saturday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
Adams State is coming off of a split weekend at home, defeating Chadron State 73-58, and falling to MSU-Denver 66-58. Leading the Grizzlies offense last weekend were Zakiya Beckles, Marshell Hollins and Laura Gutierrez. Beckles totaled 41 between the two games, with three steals. Gutierrez added 32 points, with 4 steals on the weekend. Hollins tallied 24 points, with 11 rebounds between the two games. Following Hollins with rebounds, Kassie Schell and Paiton Demps also crashed the boards, with Schell totalling 10 rebounds and Demps with 9 on the weekend.
Scouting the Orediggers
Colorado School of Mines is entering the weekend 7-5 overall, and 4-3 in RMAC play. The Orediggers are also coming off of a split weekend when facing a loss to Dixie State and a big win against the #12 ranked Westminster Griffins. This season the Orediggers are being led by sophomore, Denali Pinto. Pinto is averaging 18.9 points a game. Another big player for Colorado School of Mines is sophomore Sammy Van Sickle, who has a .403 field goal average.
The last time these two teams matched up, the Orediggers walked away with the 59-48 win in Alamosa, Colorado. The Grizzlies are 5-13 overall against Colorado School of Mines in the last 15 years. The Grizzlies and Orediggers will tip off at 6:00 p.m. at the Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colorado on Friday, Jan. 10.
Watching the Mountain Lions
UC-Colorado Springs heads into the weekend 2-11 overall and 1-6 in Conference. The Mountain Lions are coming out of a split weekend in Utah, beating Dixie State 67-40, and falling 75-64 to #12 Westminster College. The Mountain Lions are being led by junior, Abby Feickert. Feickert is averaging 10.8 points per game, while having a .409 field goal average. Another offensive leader for the Mountain Lions is senior, Madi Gaibler, averaging 9.9 points a game, with a .404 field goal average.
Last year when these two teams matched up, UC-Colorado Springs came out victorious, 77-46. Historically, the Grizzlies are 8-20 against the Mountain Lions in the past 14 years. The Grizzlies will tip off against the Mountain Lions at 5:30 p.m. at the Gallogly Events Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 11.
