OREM, Utah— A last minute addition to the Grizzly schedule allowed the Adams State University Men's Basketball team to get some valuable experience as they played an exhibition game at Division I Utah Valley University on Thanksgiving Day. The Grizzlies lost the game, 100-75.
The Grizzlies led early in the contest that included five lead changes, however, the Wolverines went on a 7-0 run to take a lead. Adams State stayed with Utah Valley as they were within seven points, 27-20, but the taxation of playing two games within 15 hours of each other proved to hurt the Grizzlies as they allowed a 22-13 run to close out the first half, 49-33.
In the second half, the Wolverines outscored the Grizzlies 51-42.
In the game,
Trace Dimeff was the leading scorer with 17 points as she shot 6-of-10 from the field while
Destan Williams scored 14 points. He was 4-of-10 from the field but 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
As a team, Adams State shot 41 percent (26-of-63) from the field and hit nine (of-24; 39 percent) three-pointers in the game.
The Grizzlies, who are 0-2 in exhibition games this year, are now scheduled to open the regular season on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The home slate is set to commence on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with the Grizzlies hosting CSU-Pueblo. They will also close out the 2020 portion of the season on Saturday, Dec. 12 and Friday, Dec. 18 when they host South Dakota Mines and Colorado Mesa University, respectively.
Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 in the San Luis Valley, all Adams State University home games in 2020 will be played without spectators. ASU Athletics will continuously re-evaluate the policy as local and state guidelines change.
