ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team is back on the road for the second straight weekend, preparing to take on a pair of Utah schools, Dixie State on Friday and Westminster on Saturday. The Grizzlies are coming off of a two-game losing streak that saw them go 0-2 on the road last weekend at Regis and Colorado Christian, and are looking to get back to winning form and take down two tough opponents on the road.
The Grizzlies, having yet to win a road game in conference play this season, go up against an opponent in Dixie State that they were able to upset two weeks ago on their home floor, 82-75. The Grizzlies were riding high that night, spectacular on the offensive end. Something that has often eluded them at times, making timely shots late in games, was not the issue that night, as the Grizzlies came through in the clutch in the most important way, which led to the 7-point victory. They now face the Trailblazers for the second time who will be seeking revenge after the upset loss.
The Grizzlies will face off against Westminster for the second time of the season on Saturday, and were not as fortunate as they were in their contest against Dixie two weeks ago, as they lost a close game 67-71 on their home floor. The Grizzlies were down by as many as 18 points in that game, and came all the way back to even take a one point lead late in the game. The Griffins were able to get a handful of big stops down the stretch and down the Grizzlies back on January 31
st. The hope on the Adams State side is that they will be able to control the game better early on, and not have to dig themselves out of a hole.
Senior
Rickey Norris has been the heart and soul of the Grizzlies as of late, as he had a double-double in both losses last weekend. Unfortunately for him particularly in the loss to Colorado Christian Friday night, opposing defenses keyed in on the Adams State guards and they were unable to get the backcourt scoring attack rolling. If they aspire to defeat both Dixie State and Westminster this weekend, they will have to rely on more offense from their guards, as their formula to success two weekends ago was hot shooting as well as solid backcourt penetration led by
Juwan Green and company.
Friday's tip off against Dixie State is set for 7:30 PM from St. George, Utah with Saturday's game against Westminster beginning at 7:30 as well from Salt Lake City. Live streams and stats for both games will be provided by the opposing schools' sports information departments.
