Poor Shooting Night Devastates Grizzlies as They Drop Their 5th Straight, 58-83

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team lost their fifth-straight contest Friday night at home, falling to the Western Colorado Mountaineers 58-83. The loss gives Western the season sweep over the Grizzlies, and drops their RMAC record to 5-15 on the 2019-20 season.

In an attempt to match the quick triggers of Western, the Grizzlies chucked up a whopping 27 three-pointers. Unfortunately for them, it was not their night from deep, as they managed to hit just three of those attempts, to shoot a forgettable 11.1% from deep on the evening. Western threw up 34 attempts from long range in the game, and converted on 13 of those, which led the way to their blowout victory.

Defensively, the Grizzlies surrendered 18 second chance points, and were doomed by Mountaineer guard Monroe Porter, who tallied 20 boards on the night. Overall, Western won the rebound differential 58-33, which gave them plenty of opportunities to mend broken possessions, and break the grizzlies' will with second chance baskets.

One player who was determined not to let the size and shooting advantage of the Mountaineers affect his play was senior forward Rickey Norris who notched a hard-fought double-double with 19 points and 16 boards. Norris led a trio of Grizzlies in double figures, as Juwan Green notched 12 and Logan Longo contributed another 11. As a team, the Grizzlies went just 21 of 71 from the field on the night.

Having now lost five in a row and been officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Grizzlies must now have the mission to play spoiler for their next two opponents, Colorado Mesa tomorrow night and Fort Lewis next Friday. Having fought hard this entire season, Russ Caton's squad hopes that they can carry that same fight and grit into the final two games in order to end the season on a high note, with their pride well intact. Tip-off for tomorrow night's contest against the Mavericks of CMU is set for 7:30 PM from Plachy Hall
