Thunderwolves Take Game One Over Grizzlies

PUEBLO, Colo. – Adams State Baseball falls to CSU-Pueblo in game one of their two game series. The Grizzlies battled hard, but Thunderwolf defense powered through. Adams State fell 12-5.
 
Adams State got a great start to the first inning scoring two. Jace Wytulka got the inning started with a leadoff walk. Kolton Bleggi followed up with a single to right, advancing Wytulka to second. With two outs, Cedrick Reynaud came through with a triple to right field, scoring Wytulka and scored on an error by the right fielder. Adams State led 2-0 moving into the bottom of the first. CSU-Pueblo responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, tying they game at two.
 
At the top of the second, Chase Dixon hit a leadoff double to left center. Mike Bathauer followed up with a single to right, to score Dixon. Leading 3-2, the Grizzlies had a scoreless remainder of the second and third. The Thunderwolves did not respond until the bottom of the fourth with a homerun to right field to tie the game at three.
 
The Grizzlies top of the fifth put two more runs on the board. Nathan Hield led the inning off with a walk. Bleggi advanced Hield to third with a double to right center. Nico Nintze followed with a single to center to score Hield. The bases were loaded after a walk to Reynaud for Dixon. The Thunderwolves walked Dixon, to score Bleggli and gave the Grizzlies the 5-3 lead to close the top of the fifth.
 
With two doubles and two homeruns, the Thunderwolves took the lead 7-5 at the end of the fifth. In the bottom of six, CSU-Pueblo tacked on three more runs on two hits, extending their lead 10-5. The Thunderwolves scored two more run in the bottom of the seventh from a homerun and two singles.
 
The Grizzlies battled in the top of the eighth and ninth, getting one hit between and two baserunners between the two innings. Adams State fell 12-5 in the first game of the Grizzlies and Thunderwolves two game series.
 
Kolton Bleggi was the Grizzlies player of the game going 4-5. Reynaud was also a big hitter for the Grizzlies, going 1-2 with an RBI and took two walks.  Nintze, Dixon, and Bathauer each had one RBI on the day. Alfredo Villa started on the bump for the Grizzlies and completed 4.1 innings, while facing 22 batters.
 
Adams State will be back out on the field tomorrow in Pueblo, Colorado to battle back against CSU-Pueblo in their second game of their two-game series.
