ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Women's Basketball is set to get back on the road to face some familiar competition in Denver, Colorado. The Grizzlies will take on the Regis Rangers Friday, Feb. 7 and Colorado Christian Saturday, Feb. 8.
Adams State is coming out of an 0-2 weekend to Westminster College and Dixie State. The Grizzlies played two hard fought games, battling back in the second half of both games. Leading the Grizzlies on the scoreboard were
Zakiya Beckles, scoring 18 on the weekend, and
Laura Gutierrez scoring 16.
Paiton Demps and
Ally McKenzie were also large contributors, each tallying 15 points on the weekend. On the boards, Gutierrez came down with 9 rebounds in two games and Demps with 8.
The Grizzlies are now moving into the final month of season, where they are beginning to see teams for the second time this season. Adams State faced Regis and Colorado Christian at the end of January, where the Grizzlies fell to the Cougars 77-51, and upset the Rangers 77-56.
Scouting the Rangers
Regis University is moving into the weekend from split results in Denver, Colorado. The Rangers fell to Colorado Mesa 63-57, and in a close game, beat Western Colorado 56-52. The Rangers are sitting in 11
th in the RMAC standings with a 6-9 record. As a unit, Regis is shooting .365 from the field, and .718 from the free throw line. The Rangers biggest threat is Whitney Jacob as their leading scorer and top defender, totaling 169 defensive rebounds. With 285 points on the season, Jacob is averaging 13.6 points a game and 9.8 boards.
Scouting the Cougars
Colorado Christian is coming into the weekend with two losses to Western Colorado and Colorado Mesa. The Cougars fell 60-49 to the Mountaineers, and to the Mavericks 61-56. Colorado Christian sits in 10
th in the RMAC standings, with the same record as the Rangers, 6-9. As a team, the Cougars are shooting .401 from the field and .626 from the free throw line. The top scorer for Colorado Christian is Sam Nunez, averaging 12.8 point a game and is shooting .420 from the field. Lourdes Gonzalez is leading the Cougars on the boards totaling 126 rebound and averaging 6.0 a game.
