DENVER – The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team suffered a tough defeat Friday, falling to conference opponent Regis on the road 99-75. The loss drops the Grizzlies to 5-11 in RMAC play, and they hope to bounce back Saturday as they travel up the road to Lakewood to face Colorado Christian tomorrow night.
In their last meeting just two weeks ago against Regis at home, the Grizzlies fell victim to the strong post play of the Rangers which ended up being the difference in a close 99-94 loss. This was not the case this time around, but Regis used a balanced attack and tremendous bench play to blow out the Grizzlies and hand them their 11
th RMAC defeat. More than half of Regis' 99 points were scored by bench players (50), and three starters finished their night in double figures which doomed the Grizzlies in the end. Regis dominated the first half 54-23, and that would be all it took to take home the victory as the Grizzlies were searching for answers headed into halftime.
The Grizzlies played a much cleaner second half Friday, outscoring the Rangers 52-45, but the halftime Regis lead would simply be too much to overcome.
Juwan Green led all scorers with 16 points with half of his damage done at the free throw line.
Rickey Norris registered a double-double on the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds, playing a hard-fought 27 minutes total. While the Grizzlies did not shoot a bad percentage from three point range (33.33%), they had a forgettable night from the rest of the field, as no player shot better than 50%, and they finished with a paltry field goal percentage of 34.4% on 21-61 shooting.
The Grizzlies now must have a short memory, as they prepare for a must-win game against lowly Colorado Christian Saturday night from Lakewood. They now face a fight for their proverbial lives, and must begin to string together wins down the stretch in February in order to qualify for the RMAC tournament. Tip-off tomorrow night from Lakewood is set for 7 PM with live stream and stats provided by the opposing school's sports information department.
