In what was a season that abruptly ended less than 24 hours before the National Championship meet in Sioux Falls, SD, one could only speculate as to who would be National Champions and earn All-America honors, as qualifiers did not have the chance to compete against the best in Division II. The All-American team was in fact announced, based off of how grapplers' seasons were up until the canceled national meet, and two Grizzlies earned All-American honors for the 2019-20 season.
Jonathan Andreatta (133) and
Noah Hermosillo (141), who had dominant seasons on the mat, were both named All-Americans, as both finished as Regional Runners-up back in February.
Â
The 2019-20 season was an unforgettable one for
Jonathan Andreatta. Entering the Regional Meet in Kearney, NE, he was undefeated and untested at 17-0, before finally being defeated in the championship bout. He ended the season ranked fifth in Division II, and will return to Adams State next season looking to eventually become an individual National Champion out of the 133-pound weight class.
Â
Noah Hermosillo had a terrific run in a tough weight class in 2019-20, going 20-5 overall. Like Andreatta, he too was the Regional runner-up in his weight class, and was looking to avenge his second-place finish at Nationals. Nonetheless, he has earned Division II All-American honors for his great season, finishing as the eighth-ranked 141-pounder in the nation. He will also return to Adams State next season, looking to build off of his good year.
Â
The proud Adams State Wrestling tradition will not rebuild next year, but rather, reload, as they will return a multitude of former and current All-Americans and National Qualifiers, who will be complemented by young talent that coach
Jason Ramstetter has brought in. Without a National Championship meet, we can only speculate as to how they would have finished this year in the National polls, but the 2020-21 season could be a special one for Adams State Wrestling.
