WBB | Cougars use early runs to defeat Grizzlies

LAKEWOOD – Adams State struggled to find the correct release point throughout Sunday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) game as they missed several shots early and fell to Colorado Christian University, 75-54.

The Grizzlies, now 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC, shot 30.4 percent (14-of-56) from the field including 30.4 (7-of-23) from the free throw line.

Adams State was outscored 24-10 in the first quarter and 22-14 in the second to enter the halftime break 46-24. They came out strong in the second half, however, the lead was too much to overcome.

The bright side came up in the third and fourth quarter as they applied pressure and forced several turnovers en route to a 10-0 run. They finished the game with 10 steals and forced 20 turnovers.

Adams State was led by Laura Gutierrez who had 12 points while Stephanie Ruiz had 11.

Officially, Adams State will return to action on Monday, Jan. 11 when they take on UCCS at 3 p.m. on the road.
