DENVER – Adams State finished the game on a 29-11 run over the final 7:18 for a come-from-behind, 87-81 victory Thursday night at MSU Denver.
Nykolas Lange hit three three-pointers in a span of 2:04 for the first nine points in the game-ending surge, and
Destan Williams scored 10 of his game-high 26 points down the stretch.
Adams State improved to 4-3, both overall and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. MSU Denver dropped to 4-3 and 3-4.
Williams, who made 8-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and made all eight of his free throws, also had a game-high eight assists.
Four other Grizzlies scored in double figures – Lange had 15 while making 4-of-5 from three-point range – while
Kaelin Crane had 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals,
Rylan O'Brien scored 11 and
Frederick Jackson had 10 points.
Adams State shot 60.0 percent (18-of-30) in the second half while scoring 53 points after the break, and the Grizzlies finished at 50.8 percent from the field. They also hit 11-of-25 from three-point range, including 6-of-11 in the second half.
The Grizzlies led for only 9:49 but led when it mattered most.
MSU Denver had six players in double figures. Laolu Oke was one of three players with a team-best 13 points, and Division II's fifth-leading rebounder pulled down 16 boards, his third-highest total of the season.
The Grizzlies are off for a whole week. Their next game will be on Thursday, Jan. 14th when they host UCCS at 7:30 p.m.
