ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies played their second week at home against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. The hard-fought battle went into two 10-minute halves, with the result of a tie.
The Grizzlies came ready to play this chilly Sunday afternoon. The Grizzlies came out strong as the Fort Lewis Skyhawks matched their intensity. The goalkeeper for the Grizzlies,
Ashley Beers had a strong first half in the goalie box. She totaled four saves in the first 45 minutes. The play of the Adams State Grizzles did not reflect truly on the stat sheet as they only had one shot on goal. Offensively the Grizzlies applied lots of pressure to the Skyhawks, unfortunately the Grizzlies couldn't find the back of the net.
This continued into the second half as the Grizzlies fought hard. Beers had another outstanding second half as she had five saves, which would total to 11 saves throughout the whole game. The entire game was a hard-fought battle by both teams. At the end of the 90 minutes, no team had score and so the game was brought into overtime.
Overtime is two, ten-minute halves and the first team to score wins the game. In the first overtime, only the Skyhawks took a shot. By the end of the first ten minutes, the game was still scoreless.
The second overtime was a different story. Both teams had multiple chances to end the game but neither keeper was letting the ball get passed them. No one would be able to score this game as the final score remained 0-0. Ultimately, this means the game would end in a tie and both teams would have to go home without the outcome that they wanted.
Up next, the Adams State Grizzlies will be back on the road as they travel to South Dakota to play Black Hills State University on October 15th at 2:00 p.m. and then go to Denver, Colorado to play Metropolitan State University of Denver on October 17th at 1:00 p.m.
