COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – It was a cold evening but the Grizzlies were ready to play as they took on University of Colorado Colorado Springs and ultimately fell 2-1 in double overtime. These two teams have met up prior this season, but the Grizzlies lost 2-0 in that game.
The first half started at 7:00 p.m. sharp. The Grizzlies and the Mountain Lions both came to play. Both teams fought hard and physical from the beginning. The game went back and forth as the game remained scoreless. This would remain that way for the rest of the half.
The second half started and immediately both teams went at it. The Mountain Lions were however able to find the back of the net. In the 69th minute Adam Baldwin scored, with an assist from Jack Souder. This looked like it would ensure the win for the Mountain Lions. That idea was looking promising until the last minute of the game. Suddenly, in the final minute,
Josh Garcia scored. The Grizzlies scored a quick one that tied them the game. This last-second goal put the game into overtime.
Overtime begins after a five-minute break. The Mountain Lions started with the ball. This is a vital possession due to the overtime being 'first to score' rule. Whoever scored first, regardless of how much time is left on the clock, would be the winners of the game.
Overtime started and it was competitive from the beginning. Both teams had some very good opportunities to win the game but they both just missed. The overtime remained to seem like it would end at any second, lasted that way for the entire ten minutes. The Grizzlies and the Mountain Lions went into a second overtime. If no one scored by the end of the additional ten minutes, then the game would end in a tie.
The second overtime was starting to look like it would end just as the first. However, in the 7th minute of the second extra time period, Kolby Raineri scored for the Mountain Lions, winning them the game.
Up next the Grizzlies return home and host Colorado State University Pueblo. This game will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17th. This will be the final game of Homecoming Weekend.
