MBB | Grizzlies travel to Texas to open 2021-22 campaign

ALAMOSA, Colo. — The Adams State University Men's basketball team will hit the road this weekend as they are set to participate in the 2021 Conference Matchup against Texas Permian Basin and Western New Mexico University.

Adams State played in one exhibition game against Colorado State University. In the game, Adams State had two players scoring in double digits Jordan Notch with 10 points and Kaelin Crane with 14. They were both one rebound away from having a double double.

This season the Grizzlies bring back six returners including Rylan O'Brien, Cole Arceneaux, Kaelin Crane, Malik Moore, Hayden Meakes and Nykolas Lange.

Coach Russ Caton, who is at the helm for the seventh season, noted that one thing the Grizzlies will have this year that they haven't had in previous years is depth. They have nine newcomers who look to make an impact.

Up first, the Grizzlies will play in Odessa, Texas, when they will play Texas Permian Basin on Friday, November 12th at 7:30 p.m. They will remain at the same gym for a game on Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. to take on Western New Mexico University.

They have played Texas Permian Basin every year for a season game, every result so far has been a loss. They have went into double overtime in the 2017-18 season with a score of 115-125.

Friday's game will be the season-opener for the Falcons as they will play Westminster on Saturday afternoon.

Texas Permian Basin was selected to finish 10 th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. The Falcons had an overall record in the 2020-21 season campaign, going 8-12 and 7-11 I league games. They appeared in the LSC tournament and played West Texas A&M in the Championship.

The Falcons bring back one of the top players from last year Jordan Horns. A senior from Minnesota, he averaged 19.3 points, shooting .340 from the three, averaging 4.7 rebounds per game and was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Horn earned the nod after leading the Falcons to their second straight upset of the No. 11 team in the nation with a 99-97 overtime victory over Dallas Baptist.

The next team the Grizzlies play is Western New Mexico University. They have yet to meet up and play in a regular season game since the Mustangs exited the RMAC.

Western New Mexico University was picked 13th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll. Due to COVID they weren't able to play a lot of their games in the 2020-21 season. With their season being mostly canceled they have a lot of returns coming back for the 2021-22 season.

Adams State will close out the pre-Thanksgiving portion of the season on Friday, Nov. 19 when they play in the AL Kaly Shrine Classic. They will tip off against the Bacone College at Pueblo, Colo. 5:00 p.m. On November 20 th they play against Spurgeon College, also at 5:00 p.m.

Adams State will then have a 13-day hiatus as they are set to travel to Puerto Rico. on Nov. 26th and Nov. 27th to take on University of Puerto Rico-Baymon and University of Puerto Rico-Cayey.
