KEARNEY, Neb.—16 wrestlers from the No. 14 ranked Adams State University Grizzlies competed at the 2021 Younes Hospitality Open hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on Saturday and redshirt sophomore
Josiah Rider was crowned champion in the Elite 157 bracket.
Rider went 5-0 on the weekend as he won his opening match by fall in 54 seconds over Briar Cliff's (Iowa) Luke Hardy. He then won his next four matches by decision. He defeated Western Colorado's Ryan Wilson (7-4), Fort Hays State's Anthony Scantlin (5-3), No. 10/6 ranked Brydon Hurber of Mary (9-5) and NCAA Division I Northern Colorado's Nathan Moore (4-1).
Isaiah De La Cerda went 0-2 on the day in the 133 Elite bracket as he dropped two two-point decisions.
The final wrestler for the Grizzlies to wrestle in the Elite division was
Hunter Tobiasson, who went 0-2.
In the amateur 125 bracket,
Adam Concepcion went 1-2 as he earned a major decision over Newman's D'Andre Brown (8-0).
At 133 pounds, Miguel Sanches went 2-2 as all four of his matches were decided by falls. He was able to get a fall over Briar Cliff's Marcelo Perez in 2:58 before defeated Colorado Mesa's Troy Ramirez in 2:26.
Cael Figueroa went 0-2 at 141 pounds while Greyson LeCompte went 5-2 at 141 pounds. He dropped his first match in a fall before rebounding and getting a fall over Doane's Mario Evans in 2:06, a 13-1 major decision over Seth Nebel of Augustana a 3-1 decision over his teammate
Dale Van Matre and a 7-5 decision over Cyruss Meeks of CSU Pueblo.
Speaking of Van Matre, he went 3-2 with three major decisions.
Angel Flores went 4-2 on the weekend including two sudden victory wins. He earned a 7-5 sudden win over Division I, Northern Colorado's Rudy Lopez and a 3-1 sudden victory over Nebraska Kearney's John Hostler.
Robert Adams went 0-2 at 149 pounds as did
Dominic Helbok at 157 pounds.
Cody Lewis went 1-2 while Aj Van Marte went 3-2 with three major decisions.
Noah Henderson went 1-2 at 184 pounds.
Diego Duarte went 0-2 at 184 pounds and
Abraham Garcia went 0-2 at 285 pounds.
