SAN JUAN, P.R.—The Adams State University Men's Basketball team capped off a successful trip to Puerto Rico on Saturday morning as they defeated the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (University of Sacred Heart), 81-68. With the win the Grizzlies are now on a four-game winning streak and improve to 4-2 on the season as they open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action on Friday (Dec. 3) when they host New Mexico Highlands.
Adams State dominated early, and they were able to pester the USC defenders as they made it to the free throw line with the bonus situation with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half and a 19-5 lead. The lead shrunk a bit in the first half with the Grizzlies taking an 8-point advantage to the break, 40-32.
The first four minutes of the second half saw USC outscore the Grizzlies 12-7 and tie the game at 44 before a three-pointer gave the Grizzlies a 47-44 lead at the first media timeout.
USC took a 1-point lead just moments later but with the back-and-forth affair, Adams State took a 61-57 lead that was accentuated by a block by
Jordan Notch that led to a breakaway slam dunk by
Nykolas Lange with 10:59 remaining in the game.
Over the next four minutes, Adams State saw the lead stay steady at four before they jumped out to a ten-point lead, 75-65, entering the final 3:35 of the game before finishing 6-3 in the final two minutes.
In the game the Grizzlies had four players with double digit scoring.
Kaelin Crane led the way with 21 points as he was 7-of-13 from the field including 2-of-4 from beyond the arch and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Nykolas Lange had 20 points as he was 7-of-12 from the field,
Hayden Meakes had 12 points and
Jordan Notch had 10. As a team, the Grizzlies were 27-of-58 (46.6 percent) from the field, 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from beyond the arch and 20-of-25 (80 percent) from the charity stripe.
