INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Five Adams State University wrestlers placed in the top five at the 42nd Annual Midwest Classic on Saturday and Sunday to place third as a team. The Grizzlies accumulated 89 team points and finished nehind Central Oklahoma (106.5) and Indianapolis (97.5).
The team race saw 42 total teams and ranks as the toughest NCAA Division II tournament in the regular season. The Grizzlies edged out Wisconsin-Parkside by half a point for third place.
The Grizzlies saw
Isaiah De La Cerda finish fifth at 125 pounds as he went 5-2. The No. 11 ranked wrestler according to the InterMat Wrestling rankings, dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 5 ranked Paxton Rosen of Central Oklahoma but earned a 5-2 decision over No. 2 ranked Nicolas Daggett of UNC-Pembroke. No. 1 ranked Joe Arroyo defeated De La Cerda in the consolation semifinal.
No. 6 ranked
Jonathan Andreatta finished in third place as he went 6-1 on the weekend. He defeated No. 13 ranked Elijah Lusk with a 13-4 major decision, Lindenwood's Tanner Hitchcock, who was ranked No. 7 in the consolation semifinals.
No. 3 ranked
Noah Hermosillo finished third at 149 pounds as he earned a 9-2 decision over No. 4 ranked Carson Speelman of Ashland and an 8-5 decision over Logan Bailey of Indianapolis, who is ranked No. 7, in the consolation matches.
At 157 pounds, No. 12 ranked
Josiah Rider placed 3rd and scored 21 team points. He warned a 7-1 decision over Mason Boutain of San Francisco State, who is ranked No. 16, earned a fall in 3:00 over No. 14 John Ridle of Central Missouri earned a 4-3 decision over Mary's Braydon Huber, who is ranked No. 9 and capped off the tournament with a 6-0 decision over Jojo Gonzalez of American International, who is ranked No. 6, for third place.
The final placer was
Hunter Tobiasson at 177 pounds as he placed fifth and scored 12 points. He scored wins over No. 9 ranked Chris Droege of Lake Erie with a 7-4 decision, a 3-2 decision over No. 16 ranked Darius Parker of Lander, and an 8-1 decision over 13 ranked Matt Kaylor of Mary.
Angel Flores went 3-2 and did not place at 141 pounds,
Cody Lewis went 1-2 at 174 points and did not place while Ben Tonnessen went 2-2 at 184 pounds.
