LAS VEGAS, N.M.—The Adams State University wrestlers were paced by a second place finish by
Kieran Thompson and a third place finish my
Jonathan Andreatta on Saturday at the 2021 Doug Moses NMHU Open.
At 125 pounds
Adam Concepcion finished in fourth place as he went 2-2. He won by fall over Xaydrian Perry of New Mexico Highlands in 1:02 and won by fall over CSU Pueblo's Dominick Castro.
Andreatta finished in third place at 133 pounds as he won three of his four matches. He won over Arizona Christian's Zane Mallery with a fall in 1:46, over his teammate
Miguel Sanchez with a fall in 1:29 and with a technical fall over CSU Pueblo's Devin Lueck.
Sanchez placed sixth at 113 pounds as he won one match, a 10-6 decision over Eric Griego of CSU Pueblo.
Carl Figueroa placed fourth at 141 points as he won two of his four matches including a fall over Otero Junior College's Jordan Robb in 4:40.
Robert Adams placed sixth at 149 pounds as he earned a fall in 1:55 over Daniel Butler of Arizona Christian University.
Kieran Thompson finished in second as he earned a 4-3 decision over Evan Killgore and won in a tie breaker over Embry-Riddle's Jonah Chew.
At 157 pounds,
Dominic Helbok won one of his three matches as he had a fall over Embry Riddle's Shane Bertero in 2:49.
AJ Van Matre placed fifth as he defeated Western Colorado's Kevin Meyer with a 9-5 decision and defeated Hunter Media of New Mexico Highlands with a 13-2 major decision. He won the fifth-place match with a 7-6 decision over Arizona Christian's Anthony Aguilera.
Adams State had three wrestlers at 184 pounds. Niah Henderson went 0-2,
Diego Duarte went 1-2 and Benjamin Tønnessen went 1-2.
At 285 pounds
Aiden Butler placed fifth and
Abraham Garcia placed sixth.
Adams State will be off until next Sunday when they participate in the Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State.
