ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a decisive 80-64 win over the Regis Rangers on Saturday night here inside Plachy Hall.
With the win, the Grizzlies close the season with a 9-8 record and earn the fifth seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament. The Grizzlies finished with an 11.76 standing in the RPI rating and will now travel to No. 4 seeded Metro State University of Denver, who finished with an RPI rating if 12.07. The Roadrunners finish the regular season with a 9-7 overall record and 9-6 in the RMAC. These two teams played back on Jan. 7 and the Grizzlies earned an 87-81 win in that game.
The winner of the game will travel to the highest remaining seed and take on either No. 1 Colorado Mesa or No. 8 Chadron State.
In a low scoring affair early, Adams State took a 33-25 lead into the half thanks to six three-pointers.
With the game tight, ASU went on a 13-2 run four minutes into the game to give them a 11-8 lead.
Adams State didn't slow down their scoring in the second half and and proceeded to go on an 18-9 run to make their lead 62-44. Regis attempted to slow down Adams State with fouls in the second could not overcome the lead as the final minutes ticked off the clock.
Five players from each team scored double-digits in the game with
Frederick Jackson being the leading scorer in the game for both teams as he scored 17.
Destan Williams scored 16,
Malik Moore scored 14 and
Nykolas Lange and
Hayden Meakes each scored ten.
Adams State shot 27-of-62 (43.5 percent) from the field but impressively hit 18-of-19 (94.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
